A Paradise Hidden Behind a Rock : Bandarawatta Beach

On the way to Colombo, we stopped by a very beautiful location where situate in Balaptiya. This is a bit away from the main road but pretty suitable for a sea bath. This place is called Bandarawatta Beach also called Balapitiya beach sometimes. The beach consists of a pool-like place that is suitable for sea bathing which is made of natural rock formations.

This place is less crowded than other beaches in the area. The shore is very suitable for sunbathing and the beach for surfing. There is a large rock that is about 4-5m in height. If you climb up the rock to a certain height you can enjoy very nice scenery. I went there in a sunny time, so the sea was completely blue and I could take nice photos there.

Even though some areas are safe for bathing, there are dangerous areas too. The area you see below contains whirlpools so it is not suitable for bathe.

On the other side of the rock, you'll see paradise! There are two ways to go to the other side, one you can cross the rock or there is a footpath through a small kadolana shrub. We used the second way as I was unable to climb the rock.

That side is also rocky but the wave is very low. So people use this shore for sunbathing and the beach for swimming. There was some kind of fungus on all the rocks that bounded to them due to exposure to the sea.

It shaped like a sea shell but can not remove from the rock. It was a relaxing experience even though we spent very little time at this place.

This place is highly recommended for a sea bath if you are looking for a less crowded place. Unfortunately, villagers have put garbage along the road and visiters have put junk on the rock and kadolana shrub which is very bad. But the shore is very clean for use.
