Diploma Convocation

At a time when I had almost forgotten that I did a Diploma in International Relations good two years ago, I received the invitational mail for our convocation. Everyone has been asking for the convocation or at least for a transcript since it has been two years, so everyone was just relieved about getting the certificate finally, not really excited. I also only attended the convocation just to meet my friends whom I hadn’t met for so long.

The convocation date fell during my exam time, so I couldn’t spend time on planning my outfit. I was studying on the very day morning that I had the convocation and finally started to get dressed when my roomie warned me that I am gonna be late. So I grabbed a saree, did my make up and did my hair since I thought to curl my ends since my ponytail lacked volume. It didn’t take that much time since I did everything in a rush and I put a uber to go to bmich. We were asked to arrive two hours early due to the security reasons since the chief guest was the president. My parents had took it very seriously and they had arrived early. They came from home, so planned to meet there directly.

I was happy to be reunited with my friends, but soon that happiness was blasted. The certificate distribution was not planned properly at all. I had to get on to the stage for a guy’s name and received a certificate of another girl. The interesting part was all three of us belongs to three different ethnicities and I was like in my mind “are you guys trying to be inclusive or not.” No offense and jokes apart.. I found the owner of the certificate the I received and handed it over to her. but I ended up without a certificate like many others. We had to be talked to them firmly to receive our certificate because there excuse was “these things commonly happen in any convocation”. But mistakes and poor organization are too different things. It was very disappointing.

But still I didn’t forget to click some pictures after solving that mess. Because we had to be “karens” in others’ eyes because we voiced the injustice we faced, so shouldn’t we at least get pictures to celebrate our hard earned certificate?

And my sister and brother also visited us their after the ceremony was over and as always she made my day special with flowers and gifts. It was funny when thinking that she gave me three gifts for the same thing; a gift before the exam, a gift for the results and another at the convocation… Good for me 🙊 The day was a wrap with that.
