Weekly CRICKET Review - XLii | Looking back on the World Cup!!!

So, how is the World Cup 2023 treating you? You already know that I am sharing a weekly wrap-up of what is happening within the Cricket community. So, it's the 42nd edition now!!

So, we are just after the 13th edition of The ICC Men's Cricket World Cup. It started on 5 October and concluded on 19 November 2023, with 10 nations and Australia under Pat Cummins's captaincy able to lift the trophy for the sixth time. You can visit my Appreciation Post for the World Champions!!

From the day this edition started, it was exciting and energetic. So many records were broken and we could witness what we were looking for at first.!! So, let's go back and see what happened in this edition with key moments!!

  • India hosted this year solely for the first time, in 10 different stadiums.

  • Australia continues its legacy of being the most successful nation in the tournament so far. Out of 13 editions, they have reached 9 semi Finals, and 8 finals and become 6-time winners.

  • At this time, every team could win at least 02 matches for the first time.

  • Virat Kohli, became the Man of the series and Leading run-scorer of the tournament. He scored 765 runs at a whopping average of 95.62. It’s the most runs scored ever in an ODI WC edition, surpassing Sachin's 673 runs. Meanwhile, he scored his 50th ODI century becoming the first.

  • Mohammed Shami became the leading wicket-taker. He was exceptional taking 24 wickets in just 07 matches at an average of 10.71 with three fifers.

  • Best innings of the tournament
  1. Maxwell's stunning double century against Afghanistan to win the match from 91/7 to 292/7. It is the first double century in an ODI chase, and the first in world cups

  2. Travis Head’s magnificent 137 against India in the final which secured them the World Cup

  • Best bowling figures - 7/57 by Shami against New Zealand in the semi-finals

  • Highest number of runs combined in all matched in a Single World Cup - 24,697 runs in 48 matches, 380+ runs in 09 times & 400+ in 03 times

  • Highest total by a team in a World Cup match - South Africa scoring 428/5 against Sri Lanka (Surpassing Australia 417/6 in 2015)

  • Lowest total by an Associate team in a World Cup match - 55 runs by Sri Lanka against India

  • Most hundreds in a single edition - South Africa - 9

  • Highest umber of Sixes in a single World Cup - Rohit Sharma, 31 sixes

  • Fastest-ever to 50 wickets in World Cup - Mohommad Shami (17 innings)

  • Most runs conceded by a baller in a single edition - Haris Rauf, 533 runs

  • Highest successful run chase in Cricket World Cups - 345/4 by Pakistan against Sri Lanka

What a World Cup it was. For me, it was certainly one of the most memorable ones.

What excites me the most is seeing all the young players names coming up.
