Happy Divali for all my Hindu friends around the world! May the world will be filled with Peace, joy and proesperity!

I am in Colombo for a few days now with my sister. The weather is not supportive at all! Most of the times, it's raining outside and I am stucked in the boarding place. Anyway despite all that, we have to visit the hospital as my uncle is going through some medical checkups and a surgery.

A few weeks back, the doctors confirmed that there are stones in his bladder and kidney. There are 4 small ones in the kidney and one large one in bladder. X-rays show that clean and clear. The quality and quantity of water, or lack of excercise may be the problem for that. The doctors' guidance was to drink more water and he gave some medication to pass those stones naturally.

But the stones in the in the bladder are too large for that. Therefore the usual procedure is to suregeically remove them. Menawhile there is another thing to be considered. This has happened due to the enlarging of the prostates. Therefore, that also has to be treated sametime.

So he was admitted in Nursing Home private hospital in Pannipitiya. The charges are high, but couldn't wait for so long in a government hospital.

TURP Surgery

As I said erlier, it is done to remove a part of the prostate.(it's only found in men) If you have a trouble in urinating or there's a weak flow, this might be a problem. A metal tube with a light, a camera and a wire is passing through the urethra. And the wire is electrically heated to cut that part. . Then those parts should be continuously washed away before getting clogged. Anyway it's a complex surgery, what isn't? That's why surgeon has a huge responsibility in his shoulder and I respect their mental stability. They have a full qualified team wit a surgeon, assistant, nurses and a techinicain.

The stone, it's damn huge to be in that small place

Anyway they did the surgery successfully. Then he has to wait in the room for sometimes. Medications and checkups were done regularly to review the progress of the process. He was discharged in the evening and has to rest for a few weeks. It cost around Lkr. 200,000 for everything including hospital charges. Pretty reasonable after all.

Until the next time! Enjoy!

Thank you.
Best Regards!

My elder brother underwent a similar procedure at Lanka Hospital, formerly known as Appalo Hospital. Although he had three stones, they weren't as big as those of your uncle. It was in year 2010.

Ah then it could be passed natural from medicines!!

No, the medications weren't addressed. Only surgery offered a solution.
