Helping Hands | Meth Sewana Foundation

Once the Lord Buddha said,

"The way to happiness is: keep your heart free from hate, your mind from worry. Live simply, give much. Fill your life with love. Do as you would be done by." Who doesn't want a beautiful world with Love and peace?

This is about my engagement in a small charity programme recently. No more happiness if another one person motivate to do so, after reading this.

There is a charity home for children near my home which is called 'The Meth Sewana foundation' (in Handapanagala, Sri Lanka).

What is this place?

It has been started to provide affection and protection for mentally and physically disabled kids. There are about 120 kids, who need help for their daily routine and do not have parents and who have been abundant.

The owner here has donated his own residence and live with these kids to give them the best comfort. They are making a huge merit for sure.

I wanted to help them with my school class friends for a long period of time. But we were here and there in past few years. With the Corona Pandemic we all got the free time. So, I came with the idea and everybody liked it without any hesitation.

We all were in a mindset where these kind of activities worth more than a gathering party.
So, we fixed a date and tried to find some donations from close friends.

In a short period, we were able to find nearly 300 dollars, which is pretty good amount for us.

We decided to make the rice and curry from our homes and use all the collected money to buy necessities for these kids. Our parents were really happy and gave their full support.

In last Saturday we went for the big work. We got ready for the dinner.

The Items we prepared to donate

Rice and curries (Dhal curry, Chicken, potato curry, cutlets, coconut sambal, Papadam and Achcharu)
Ice cream & Pudding
Clothing items (Towels, Handkerchief, Pillow cases, T – shirts, Trousers, Bed sheets, Sanitary Pads and Diapers)
A Thermometer
Medicines
Toys
Detergents
Baby products (cream, oils, moisturizers, baby shops)
A shaving machine
Biscuits and other dry food

They get the dinner at about 5.00 p.m., bit early. Because after having the meals, those kids need to be washed and sent to bed.

There are few kids who can eat by themselves. Others have to feed. And also, there are small kids less than a year.

They were happy with the food and presents. Some kids ask 2 or 3 ice-creams. More than that they want to talk with us. We tried our best to treat them well.

One boy requested to take him home.

For me it’s a really sensitive moment. The life is not same for everyone. These kids try to smile besides all the differences and difficulties.
It’s our responsibility to give them a smile at least for once.

I wish all the kids in the world to have love, kindness and affection.

The smiles of them will be remembered forever to us. And it makes us to do more such things.
