Ediriweera Sarachandhra Open theater (Pera Wala)
Today I’m going to share with you about the Prof. Ediriweera Sarachandhra Open Theater. Normally we call it as "Pera Wala". You all know right??
The Wala that the princess Maname gave the sward to the trapper(wadda), King of Sinha Ba, who was killed by his own son, and the Usha fought to prove the maternity of her son. Also this is the Wala that Jayalath Manorathne get at the inspiration.
In the previous article, I mentioned that Peradeniya University has seven wisdoms. The wala is one of it. So What is the significance of the Wala? The landscape of the Wala is natural, and the important thing is that when we talk on the stage by chin up in 30˚, the intensity of the sound does not change. The man who is in the back row can hear the same intensity that the person sitting in the front row could hear.
The students Of Peradeniya have a huge respect on wala. Not only students but also artists respect this. They believe that if a drama succeeds in Pera wala, it should be considered a world-class art form. This saying has a kind of truth. Because the crowd is not less than 2500 in Pera Wala, and at the end of a drama they have a discussion on drama. If a play is very good, the crowd claps and vessels. You must hear this sound and you must be a participant in this crowd.
There is a saying, "The eyes that did not watch Maname while sitting in the Wala is useless. (wale idan maname balapu nathi as dekak kumakatada).
I must say something about the feeling of watching a drama with a girl in the wala. You know about the cool climate of Kandy at night. Hmm... A drama starts at 7.30pm. At this time, the environment gives romantic feelings to all and the Maname ups this feeling more and more. What about singles? In the academic situation, students are compacted with academic stress in their minds, and this is a time to be relaxed. Also in general, students are mostly in contact with students from the same faculty. On drama day, they can find a chance to see and start a chat with a girl or a boy. In this case you're single in the first drama ; and in the next, you're not.
When we were new to the campus, seniors introduced us to Wala. That moment was unbelievable. We did a concert on the stage, and all the items were in-situ preparations. But they were all good and funny. There are many stories to be told. However, not everything could be written. If you want to feel this feeling, you must be a Peradeniya student. But you can have a different perspective on drama if you visit Peradeniya.
Everyone can watch dramas in Wala. But you should get a ticket. (Student tickets are Rs. 70 now. But an outsider ticket is Rs. 100 or above). Guys, Go! Go and have the feeling what I am talking about here!
Thank you so much for reading!❤
