Tea planting material
Today I met a tea planter which having small scale tea nursery to get detail about the tea planting material. I collect that information to do an assignment which related to tea planting material.
Sri lanka famous in the world because of Ceylon tea. Mainly Sri Lankan Black tea take high demand in global market.
As the planting material VP cuttings used in the commercial planting. VP cuttings are easy to propagate and can produce plant which similar to mother plant. Plant gets from the tea seeds having heterogenous characters, hard to maintain uniformity in the tea plantation.
Tea plant prune once in 3 years. Branches remove from the plant use to get VP cuttings. One cut has single leaf and bud. That cuttings plant in a polythene sleeves. Nursery period is 8 to 12 months. He said that, can sell one seedling for 18-25 Rupees. According to demand in the period price can change.
Tea research institute introduce and recommend different tea series and estate selection for different region considering climatic condition, soil fertility and other factors which affect to sustainable tea plant growth.
In Balangoda area belongs to Mid country wet zone. So Balangoda mainly famous for TRI 2023, TRI2024, TRI 4042, TRI4006, TRI4042, TRI4046. TRI4047, TRI4053, TRI4071 as tea series. Today I saw a tea nursery which having TRI2023 seedings.
In Sri Lanka, there is no problem with tea planting material. Because of main export earning crop, government sector, private sector and small-scale farmers involve with producing tea planting material to prevent the shortage in supply.
New planting series introduce by the tea research stations, mainly experiments done in the Thalawakele Tea research institute and Rathnapura low country tea research institute. They produce new varieties by breeding and introduce to tea planters which having high performance than the existing tea varieties.
My final research I hope to do about tea small holders. Information which collected today highly useful for that.
My one of punchi has a small tea plantation and they are living Udugama. Most of the people in that area do tea plantation as a career. Tea plantation adds priceless beauty to the environment. We can see a huge area from green colur💚 And the other thing os there are uncountable courage behind small holders in every career. I'm sure your research will be a interesting and successful research dear....🤗

Very good article I like this and we had tea garden,not too big. Before I married, I am going for plucking tea.In the morning very easy to pluck.
