Alms giving

in Steem Sri Lanka5 years ago (edited)

Time flows under our feet @ an unbelievable flow rate.😊

Day before yesterday (6th May ) was the due date of commemorating Amma who expired on 6th February. My first writting to Steem Sri Lanka was the post regarding her death & funeral which took place at our parents' residance at Kuliyapitiya.

But these days that area has been locked down due to Covid 19 Pandemic. Hence, we (our family members) had to carryout three months alms-giving at Sri Pushparamaya temple which is situated at our village.

Chief monk of our temple is kind hearted priest who had faced a surgery recently.

An another two bhikkus stay at same temple. Out of those two, one is a Samanera who is at about 10 years now.

When we went there, that Samanera was playing with two friends (most probably nabours) at temple premises. Any of them didn't wear face masks.😥 So, I explained the current condition & requested them to wear masks.

We prepared "dane" including a pudding & fruit salad. Purchased an ice cream box also for deserts. Packed three parcels of pirikara containing utensils such as head shields, face masks, sanitizers, tooth brushes, tooth paste, mouth wash etc. as those are useful these days.In addition to two number of "Atapirikara", some money has been offered to Chief monk.

Thereafter, while chief monk chanting "Yathavadee vahapoora....", the pali gatha which is mostly used during the buddhist custom "Pen Vedeema", we poured water to a container by a jug till it will be overflowed by remembering Amma & the other relatives who are no more.

At that day, a mason & a helper were constructing a new wash room attached to Chief monk's room of existing "avasaya". So, we thought that it would be better to supply & fix a geaser to the new wash room to enable to Chief monk to get hot water easily . So, we requested to fix a13A switch when wiring & fixing electrical items & inform us when masonary & painting work complete.

After successfully completed almsgiving, we came back home & had lunch together. All of us were very happy.

Usually we satisfy when having delicious food. But totally satisfied feeling of offering (food & other things) to someone, specially after a "Dana" is great.😊
