Happy Nurses Day to All the Wonderful Nurses of the World! | 5% for SL Charity
Dear clinical diary,
12.05.2021
I have seen the maximum of the labor pain of a mother giving birth to a child. I have held the hand of a newborn baby and smiled with her. I have hidden my tears when I saw a 7 years old cancer patient crying out for an injection. I have tricked kids into laughing who crying and refusing the medications. I have kissed a baby who is leaving the ward after recovery.
I have hidden my tears when I saw a 20 years old boy is tearing in pain on the verge of death. I have held trembling fingers of a young woman while cleaning her wounds. I haven't been shocked to see the skin being cut from the tips of surgical blades.
I have hidden my tears when I saw the moment removed the ventilator machine of a father although there was no movements. I have bathed a father who was lying down on the bed. I have hidden my tears when I heard the sad stories of a father on the verge of a death. I Have wiped away my tears when I saw the mother weeping over the body of her dead son.
I have comforted a grandmother who is afraid of surgery by holding her hand. But I have found the comfort by ignoring the painful legs and sleepy eyes at the end of the day.

I am a final year nursing student at the University of Ruhuna. I am currently on my elective appointment in ICU (Intensive Care Unit). Of course I have experienced all the things above throughout my student life. Being student nurse brings many challenges every day. But I have to say, I'm enjoying every minute!
Actually nurses have always been crucial in recovery and well-being of each and every one. However they have hardly ever received the respect that they deserve. I think that during the COVID-19 pandemic has done more than enough to remind us just how important these nurses. So today I wanna wish everyone a Happy International Nurses Day with my heartfelt respect and gratitude! 👏❤
