To day i am going to talk about an important and old construction in srilanka, an architecture designed by architects.
The design of this building is based on the royal audience hall of the kingdom of kandy, the last native monarch of the island, where the upland treaty was signed between the british and the upland grants on 05 march 1815.
The building was designed by eight talented leading architects. Freedom square is a massive stone building that commemorates srilanka's independence from the british empire in 1948. On the way to the building is an impressive statue of D.S. SENANAYAKE, srilanka's first prime minister, flanked by four stone lions with protruding eyes. The exterior of the assembly hall is decorated with abundant post call 'punkalasa' signifying wealth and prosperity.

The building was presented on 04 february 1948 by prince #HENRY, lord of gloucestershire. The monument in front of the independence square was built to commemorate the late honorable D.S #SENANAYAKA the first prime minister of srilanka. A formal ceremony was held here to mark the beginning of self government, with prince #HENRY opening the first parliament. This interior of this hall is supported by 60 pillars decorated with the outstanding mango wood carvings of the 14th century gampola kingdom. On february 04, 1949 the foundation stone for the independence house was laid during the second independence celebration. During the work of the freedom memorial hall D.S. mr Senanayake fell from a horse and died. Due to this, the construction work was stopped.

With the appointment of Mr. S. W. R. D. Bandaranaike as the Prime Minister, attention was focused on reform. After completing its remaining works, it was inaugurated on 4th february 1957 during the independence day. Chinese prime minister chou en lai also participated in the independence ceremony. A pair of cobbled steps are built to enter the building. The pride of the srilankan people is symbolized by the figures of the lions facing the four direction around the mandir.the building has been built with the capacity to seat more than 400 people and the gathering space of 25000 people in the open ground. The rectangular shaped independence hall has to entrance on either side.

I took these photos about a year ago. You all know about #COVID - 19 virus.that virus spread all over the world and killed a large number ofb people. In srilanka, we as the sinhalese nation all believe un buddhist philosophy. For us buddhist, buddhism comes to mind in times of troubles as well as happiness. Therefore, even after the arrival of the #COVID - 19 virus, we had to seek the help of western medicine as well as our religion. A seth patha ashirwada pirith sermon was held in this building for the dead and living people of srilanka. Pirith sajjayanaya was held continuously day and night for a week.

A large number of people in srilanka participate in this program which was done with the support of the state. Here are some of the pictures i look that day.
This building is mostly used for various special occasion. I will tell you some of the various events that have been held using this building before. Independence square is not only dedicated to the independence memorial. This is also used for other government function.

In this way, after the death of important and famous people in srilanka the last rites of the body were done in this free square premises.
today,walking lanes have been created around this building. Therefore, many people come here at the end of the day for a free space to do various exercises thinking about their health. the independence memorial hall or the independence square, which was built to commemorate the independence, attracts everyone's attention today.

This wonderful building, which tells the world the pride of the freedom srilankas have received, has been praised by various state leaders who have visited srilanka from time to time. A large number of local and foreign tourists flock to this place every day to visit the freedom house, a national monument that is respected by the entire world.

According to a decision taken by the council of ministers meeting on 20th april 1983, the freedom house building was handed over to the ministry of of culture and arts. The urban development authority has been assigned to improve the surrounding environment in such a way as to preserve the dignity of the independence memorial building. From the day the freedom house building was handed over to the ministry of culture and arts until now, all the maintenance and repair work of the freedom house and its surrounding area has been carried out by the department of cultural affairs.
