MY WORK LIFE

I am currently an undergraduate at a federal university in my country, Nigeria. I am studying Electrical and Electronics Engineering. It is a five-year course and I am in my fourth year already. As a student, much is expected of us we have deadlines to meet, classes to attend, assignments to submit, reports to turn in, laboratory practicals keep us busy as well, extra-curricular activities are also there and many more. The life of a student at times is even more engaging and demanding than those of workers who work a 9-5.

In some faculties, including the Faculty of Engineering there are semesters set aside for industrial trainings. These industrial trainings help we students to gain real world practical experience about core concepts in our field of study.

Like the SWEP (Student's Work Experience Program), which is mandatory for every sophomore Engineering student. I did this at the end of my second year, it was so much educative and engaging, we were expertly drilled in both the theory and practical aspect of all major engineering fields. We learnt core concepts of engineering fields and used the knowledge to build and solve real world engineering problems

Another industrial training program is SIWES, Student's Industrial Work Experience Scheme which I just completed at the end of my third year. Unlike the Student's Work Experience Programme (SWEP) which is hosted and organized by your university or college, students run their SIWES program in industries, companies or organizations relevant to their course of study.

Since I am an Electrical and Electronics Engineering student, I did my SIWES program at a solar panel/power installation company (DAVELAW Technologies) here in Kwara state. I was expertly taken through every step of installing solar power, I was taught the best practices, helped in the installation of solar power in many buildings and many more. It was a huge milestone in my career.

I love applying the theory-based knowledge learnt in classrooms in real world situation and through programs like SWEP and SIWES it is made possible. I will be enrolling for more programs like these in the remaining two sessions I have left before graduation and I more than excited for what the future holds.

Currently, federal tertiary institutions in the country are not in session because our lecturers are on strike. The reason they are on strike is due to the fact that the government are not living up to the agreement made by both parties, owing our lecturers months of salaries. It is just sad for both we the students and the lecturers alike. Hopefully, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in the country and the government come to an agreement and the strike is called-off.

But before then, everybody has to find something else to do and develop in one way or the other. I learn Software development part time when school was in session, so I just resumed learning it full time now that ASUU is on strike. I commit many hours per day to get better at building software and I am really enjoying it.

In summary about my work life or student life, I am an Electrical and Electronics Engineering student as well as a Software Engineering student. Combining both is not an easy task, but because of the passion I have for both, it is what I have to do.

Can you make time at work for Steemit?

Sure! As a student I have a very flexible schedule. Flexible in the sense that apart from my fixed classes, I basically have my time to myself and it is up to me to utilize it wisely to get other important things done.
Most people say they don't have time but it is this same people you would see mindlessly scrolling through their phones, not necessarily getting anything productive done on it. What I am saying is that, if one is interested and really has passion for something time can always be created for it.

When my friends @ojerindejoel and @olawole111 introduced me to the Steemit platform and told me all about it, that it is "like a social media site but built on a blockchain and I will be paid in a cryptocurrency (STEEM) for creating and publishing original content", I was immediately interested because I love to write and I need money 😅 so it was an easy choice.

Though, creating time to make and post content on Steemit alongside being a full-time student is not easy but like I said earlier because I have passion for these things and I want to be financially comfortable it is what I have to do.

Recently, since all federal universities in my country are not in session including mine, I spend all my time getting better at Software development and also creating content on Steemit. I play video game sometimes too.

Could Steemit be your first job?

Despite the many activities I am engaged in, I still do create enough time to be active on Steemit and know about the major developments happening on this platform. About it being my first job, I don't know yet. But I do know some people who has made a career out of content creation on this amazingly rewarding platform. Many people around the world have made a career out of content creation on various social platforms like the OG YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and it is even becoming more popular with the invention of social media platforms solely for content creation like TikTok, Instagram and the likes.

How is your financial situation?

All I can say is Alihamdulilahi (Thank God). I have very responsible parent that I am currently depending on but I also makes some money on the side online through platforms like Steemit. I am working hard to achieve both my short- and long-term goals and eventually land my dream jobs or own an establishment of my own so I can be financially stable and help others around me.

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, I love my Job as a student and I also like to create and publish article on Steemit. I always find time out of my busy schedule to check the Steemit platform and create contents. I will continue to be active on Steemit and grow with the platform. I love Steemit!

Thank you, so much for reading through. Please do leave your comments so I can know what you think of it.

Also, I would like to invite my friends @kennydavebobo, @olawole111, @ojerindejoel to participate in this contest and share how they balance their work life and Steemit together.

As a student I can relate but not fully cos I have literally no idea how the life on an electrical engineering student is😅.

It’s not easy getting the time to post on steemit while in school but you’re doing well. I hope you’re able to get enough money to start your own establishment.

i i'm really impress with your series in school sir. I did mechanical engineering and i must say engineering courses are not easy to validate. also i love the way the way you perceive steemit by using counter examples; tittok, youtube....shows you understand the concept of the platform and knows exactly what you are doing..keep up with the good work.

Thanks for the compliments sir. Yeah, they are all part of the family of social media platform.
