Man Utd 1-2 Leicester City || the-gorila Match Report

in World Of Football ⚽3 years ago

In years gone by, it would seem unthinkable that I would go 8 days without watching a football match but nowadays, I almost feel lucky that I've watched one so recently. Almost. This game was a bit shit.

Having warned of rotation, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was true to his word with Mason Greenwood the only player to have started the match against Villa. Fortunately for me, I'd played my Triple Captain chip on Greenwood in my Fantasy Football so I was feeling rather pleased with myself. The only downside was that the rest of the attacking players, with the exception of Juan Mata was hardly well known so could they create chances for my man against a strong Leicester team? In fact, before the match, Sky Sports had a segment titled "WHO IS ANTHONY ELANGA?" which went to show how deep into the Man Utd squad Solskjaer was digging.

In contrast, Leicester picked a strong team but with the FA Cup final on Saturday, would they go in for a 50-50 ball with the same aggression as a Man Utd player with something to prove?

My fears were well founded. In a lack lustre 1st half, Man Utd looked like a group of players that had only just met and after just 10 minutes, Youri Tielemans, with the freedom of Old Trafford down Leicester's right, clipped a ball over to the far post where Vardy had lost his marker. Vardy let it go though having heard a shout from Luke Thomas who placed a beautiful volley across the front of the goal and into the top corner. ⚽ 1-0 ⚽ to Leicester.

Strangely though, Leicester seemed nervous themselves and a ball over the top caught out Luke Thomas. Diallo cutting back, laying it off to Greenwood who took a couple of touches and placed it into the far corner out of Schmeichel's reach. ⚽ 1-1 ⚽ That's 15 points for a Triple Captain with the increased potential for bonus points on top. Man Utd and their main danger tonight, Greenwood scoring with their only chance.

There were only 2 shots in the 1st half and roughly 2,000 misplaced passes. With the exception of 2 top quality goals, it was a half to forget. Unless you were the only person in your mini-league to triple captain Greenwood in which case, you were laughing 😆

The 2nd half continued much like the 1st for Man Utd which allowed Leicester to dominate the ball creating some half decent chances. Iheanacho probably having the best of them and forcing a save from De Gea from close range. It took until the 66th minute for the match to be won though when Solskjaer decided to ignore the 1st rule of substitutions:

Substitutions Rule 1: Never, ever, ever make a substitution when defending a corner. Ever.

In Solskjaer's defence, he probably thought Albrighton would dump the ball on Telles' head again but instead, he played it to the far post where Rashford, fresh on as substitute, was also expecting it to land on Telles' head. Confused and disorientated by the fact that it didn't, he totally forgot that he was supposed to mark Soyuncu who scored with a fine header. ⚽ 2-1 ⚽ to Leicester.

With Cavani, Rashford and subsequently Fernandes on the pitch, Man Utd improved after this but were unable to create anything with any real quality, going on to hand Man City the Premier League title.

Leicester look in good shape for a Champions League spot for next season and will be grateful for the cruel rescheduling of fixtures for Man Utd, which has given them an extra day's rest before their Cup Final.

A great match!

A few things here...

  1. Ya absolute fecker, i too played my triple captain this week and went for Bruno, at least he clocked up 10 points against Villa and I suppose 1 point multiplied by 3 for his cameo is more than if he stayed on the bench.

  2. I'm not watching as much football either. 3 chislers will do that to ya... But another thing is match fatigue. There are too many Premier League games on telly now, literally all of them, so I don't really look forward to a match now... they should revert to 7 games on Saturday, 2 Sunday and 1 Monday night in my opinion. Again greed dectating.

  3. Why did United rest so many players! It was a very very long shot, but if they won all their games, and City couldn't muster the point they needed, it could have been very interesting. Extremely unlikely, yes, but still at least try. Don't just gift wrap tge league for your city rivals as they did yesterday evening when Solskaer decided to pick 6 of the starting line up from the Tesco car park where they were having a kick about.

😆 I think Solskjaer knew the title was over long ago so at least by doing that, there's no hope any more and people can stop talking about it. He can focus on the Europa final now and get everybody well rested over the next few weeks in preparation.

I think once the fans are back, they'll cut down on the TV games again. I quite like having the option to watch something most nights but it makes Fantasy Football planning a nightmare. 24 hours to do all my analysis and planning just isn't enough. The Premier League definitely need to ditch the Thursday games to give me an extra 24 hours!

I like that I've found lots of people who like Fantasy Football - I got an app update from UEFA and I think they've launched their fantasy Euros game so I'll need to get that set up with an enticing prize fund 🙂 I'll have to see how generous I'm feeling when I set it all up.
