Ghana vs Uruguay 2010: My Greatest World Cup Game Ever

I only watch behind screen the quarterfinal match between Uruguay and Ghana drama at the Soccer City Stadium in South Africa. Even though I watched behind screen, I was leaping off my seat watching this incredible match and I thought as much those who were lucky to be in the stadium did same.

This game was just interesting and had everything. There were several opportunities for either side and both hardly missed their chances, adding to the tension of the match.

Ghana controlled most of the possession at 57 percent over Uruguay’s and registered 26 shots compared to Uruguay's 14. The match itself seemed to be a bit more tied than the statistics shown.

The first goal came right after first half, the Ghanaian left footed midfielder, Sulley Muntari clinically placed a long shot into the back of the net given Ghana the lead.
Diego Forlán was the player who scored back a free kick for Uruguay in the 55th minutes of the match to square the game and that was 1-1. As you can see for yourself, the match was really a great match and I don’t think Ghanaians will forever forget this match.
Also looking at the stats of the game, Ghana played more than the Uruguay’s.

The match ended 1-1 and they went for extra-time, as tired legs led to both teams spurning chances. In the second portion of extra-time, the game went more tougher and tougher but still Forlán and Ghana's Stephen Appiah missed putting their respective countries ahead.

The real excitement came in a moment just before the end of extra-time. Within the 18th yard box the Ghanaian players played several shots, but were cleared off the goal line by Uruguay's defenders.
This was the most painful part of the game, Luis Suárez gave himself up for the team and was sent off for using his hands to hit the ball down to save his team from what would have surely been a goal.

Looking at the advancement of football, if it were to happen this time, they would have consider it as a goal and also gave Luis Suarez a Red card in addition.

When Luis Suarez hit the ball with his hands, the referee gave him a Red card and he was sent off. He was crying while going out. He was still on the pitch when Asamoah Gyan missed the penalty and was happy and he was jubilating.

And this was how he played the penalty.
Asamoah Gyan, the Ghanaian striker who had the weight of his county on his shoulders as he approached the penalty spot. The Ghanaian striker( Asamoh Gyan) played the ball shot and the ball hit the crossbar.

When he played that ball away, Ghana was quite like a cemetery in other words, the whole Ghana was quite.
Immediately he missed the penalty, The whistle blew and the unbiased drama was to happen that’s penalty shootout.

Forlán was the first player who stepped up for the Uruguay’s and confidently put the ball back of the net, opening the first penalty goal of the game. Gyan redeemed himself by putting away Ghana's first attempt into the top-right corner. Mauricio Victorino then amazingly scored the next penalty putting Uruguay in front 2-1. Appiah then scored makeing the score line 2-2 then Andrés Scotti hit a low drive down the middle to again give Uruguay the edge making it 3-2 and then John Mensah then took a very poor poor attempt that was easily save by the Uruguay’s goalkeeper Fernando Muslera. Maxi Pereira for Uruguay’s play shot and also missed penalty and the score line was still 3-2 and then Dominic Adiyiah's attempt was saved as well, giving Uruguay the big chance to end the match. Up stepped Sebastián Abreu, who coolly chipped the ball past Richard Kingson to put Uruguay through to the semifinals!
It was really painful because Ghana was the only Africa country to reach the quarterfinals but due to the ungrateful performance of some of the players of Ghana, they were beaten by the Uruguay’s. Look at the squad that Ghana took to the World Cup, that squad were having then opportunity to take the cup and that was what the players were dreaming and we all know that, “the wish of human is never the will of the Most High

I wasn't able to see the match live but it was an absolutely extraordinary match to witness even watching on television. Ghana vas Uruguay was a classic game and that will never be forgotten in World Cup history. Such heartbreak for the Ghanaians who were carrying the hopes of Africa and have fought hard to make it proud.
All the Uruguay were going insanely mad as their countrymen's victory was won in such dramatic fashion. What a match!...
A match which can never be forgotten by Ghanaians, Africans and even the world. I’m saying this because, within all the African countries, it was only Ghana who happens to reach that stage. So all the support of those countries were on Ghana and all the same, it ended in tears.

The whole world named Luis Suarez hand as the hand of devil for saving his country and denying Ghana an opportunity to be in the semi-finals.

This match really saw great things from both sides. It was a clear epitome of passion for country soccer. I think I've watched it for a few times.

Too bad the final penalty was missed by Gyan though. Could have set a huge record for Ghana.

Thank you for your participation.

Thanks too for the wonderful contest

I also follow the situation in football. However, I am not always sure about football news. Journalists love to embellish events. If I need facts, then I use livescores.biz Such a site is a great help for those who are seriously interested in football and even those who make their own sports predictions. There are also links to current broadcasts and match schedules.
