The Football Players Association of India (FPAI) has awarded him the Best Indian Player-2016 award. He has been awarded the Best Young Player Award by the FPAI (2010-2011). This international player of India qualified the SAIF Championship in January.
Old relationship with football
JJ hails from Hunnithial village of Mizoram and was born on 7 January 1991. The most special thing related to his life is that JJ was born in a family that had an old relationship with football. Both his father and elder brother have played for the local Mizoram club. So at the same time, his uncle has represented the Santosh Trophy in Mizoram.
JJ made his debut at the Model Sporting Club just four months after his father retired. JJ came to Lime Light when he performed in the Yi-Yi Cup in Mizoram. JJ then performed in Mizoram's U-19 team and never looked back after that.
Striker JJ is also the all-time top scorer combined with Sunil Chhetri in the AFC Cup. He has also received the honor of Emerging Player of the Year in 2013 by the All India Football Federation with his various achievements.
Awarded Junior Indian Footballer in 2011
JJ made his international debut in 2012. He received the most votes from fellow professional footballers. He won the coveted trophy by overtaking Indian captain Sunil Chhetri, Bikas Zairu, David Lalrinmuana and Dhanchandra Singh. Incidentally, JJ won the FPAI Junior Indian Footballer of the Year award in 2011.
Sunil during the recent Intercontinental Cup match against Kenya and performed well. Chhetri had scored two goals, with JJ also scoring a goal. A large number of spectators were present to watch this match.
JJ Lalpekhlua, who plays in the ISL, is the number two goal scorer after Sunil Chetri.
