Football In My Country

in World Of Football ⚽3 years ago (edited)

Let me start with a brief introduction of who I am, I am Abiodun Adeosun by name and I am from Nigeria. I am so glad to finally come across a community where I can thrive and also connect with like minds. Well, to speak on football seems to be calling as I can do it all day long without needing a rest. Enough about me and what I can do, Let's dive into the reason for the creation of this post.

Football in my country (Nigeria) is not something that is taken with levity. It is been seen by a lot of people from a different perspective. Although, the differences still have some element of similarities but the actions taken regarding it is quite different. In order to make myself clearer, Football is been seen as a get out of jail card by aspiring footballs who hope to be one day signed by a top team or any team in Europe or abroad.

Some see it as a money-making venture and that has led to the growth of the betting companies in Nigeria. as of the time of writing, I have no idea how many sports betting companies Nigeria has but I must say that it has become a job for some people while some see it as a venture for some quick money. Well, let us ignore this aspect and dive into Football as a sport in Nigeria in the heading that comes next.

Football as a sport in Nigeria

Nigeria is a country that is blessed with great stars filled with talents and skills. Nigeria has produced some of the nation's finest players in the world and they seem to be producing more on a daily basis. It will be rare to watch any top or lower league without a Nigerian performing excellently well in such a league.

Nigeria's love for football could also be argued as a lot of Nigerians could be seen representing other nations. That goes a long to show how good we are in sports. Nigerian footballers are always technically gifted and that makes it hard for a viewer to be bored while watching Nigerian plays.

We are properly the most skillful players on the African continent and we have legends and current footballers still on the top of their game to prove this fact. Starting with the most skillful legend Nigeria ever had, Jay-Jay Okocha. Okocha skills, flicks, and turns were what we mostly see on the football field daily in Nigeria,

Okocha only made it much sweeter to watch as he used his technical ability to humiliate other football stars on the big screen. The likes of Ozil and Ronaldinho have professed their love for him and the great impact he had on their games. Spead, Strength, Flicks, Turns and aggressive nature were some of the traits exhibited by Okocha and that's the embodiment of Nigerian football in a wider sense.

In Nigeria, Football could be played on either an untiled floor, on the street road or a school pitch or in a stadium. Nigerians love for the game has made us model the game to suit any occasion in respect to the interested parties looking forward to playing. Nigerians can play a Five aside or a six aside or a game of 11 versus 11 sides and sometimes it could be 3 against 3 just to get the trill of the game.

Football in Nigeria is less likely to e tactical as we rely mostly on our skills and individual talents. This used to be what was attainable at some point in Nigerian Football but things have quite changed a little but the love for football in Nigeria remains as strong as ever. Regardless of how small a football match is, you will be sure to see the fans/supporters around.

In Nigeria, even for a five aside game of football, you will be sure to see fans looking at the match with interest, which shows the level of love for the game. Football is the number sport in Nigeria and it is the most-watched and followed in the country and there is a good reason for that.

In my opinion among the men in the country, Football ranks tops as their source 0f entertainment and the reason is simple it is fun and easy to relate with. football is becoming quite popular among the girls too of late and many young girls are turning to the sport for entertainment and also at the career.

That is not to say that females in Nigeria have not been actively participating in the sport before now as Nigeria's female football team is the most successful team on the Africa continent in their category. Football is a great sport for Nigeria as a country and it is unlikely that another sport will attain its level in the heart of so many Nigerians in Years to come.

This reminds me a lot of the football we enjoy here in Ghana. We also seem to heavily depend on individually skilled players instead of playing tactical football. God knows how many betting and gaming establishments we also have here, haha.

Great entry. Thank you for your participation.

Glad that you could relate. I feel that all African country has similar football playing styles and that is what make our tournament a bit tougher as everyone know what you could do

Nice article Abiodun, it was an awesome read. I love soccer as well! Unfortunately here in Canada soccer isn't as big as it should be.
