RACISM IN FOOTBALL

in World Of Football ⚽3 years ago

Football is the biggest and most followed sports in the world. It has developed quickly from a small sport to worldwide hobby. However, with the rapid increase in racism, football is becoming known as a sport for hooligans. This aggressive attitude is ever present amongst the fans and players alike and this is not how football should be.

Why is racism in football a big issue? With recent cases such as the abuse of Instanbul Baseksehir assistant coach by the assistant refree in a match between PSG and Instanbul Baseksehir in this year's UCL which resulted in termination of the match and also Luis Suarez’s racist remarks towards Antonio Valencia, the increasing aggression is becoming clear and frowned upon by football critics.

Understandably, racism is not just an issue in football only but in many sports, at all stages – from non_professional to professional. However we cannot just over look it for this reason; it can have disastrous effects on youngaters when they see their role models calling other professionals names due to their skin colour.

Racism has become habitual in all Football Leagues. From the German Bundesliga to the English Premier League to the Spanish Laliga, racism clouds over the teams’ stadiums. Football fans have detected the abuse and racism getting worse as the years have passed.

In the Polish League and Russian leagua, fans boo and whistle at black players when the ball is in their possession even at their home pitches. Imagine how it feels to realise that despite the fact you are at an equal capacity as all the other players on the field of play, you are treated like an animal due to your skin colour. Why should religion or country of birth have effect on the way we are treated? We are all equal.

Furthermore, the utilization of alcohol should be controlled or banned in football venues. Alcohol is usually people’s first excuse. ‘I didn’t mean it, i was drunk’ is usually heard and even more so by football fans who are too arrogant to note the danger of their actions. Alcohol has proved to be an extreme killer on the roads and is proving to be the source of hatred and abuse amongst football fans. If it were to an extent controlled, it's estimated that both physical and verbal abuse cases could reduce, making football venues interesting.

Unfortunately much proof has been amassed to conclude the fact that football has become racist as it’s grown globally. The seemingly never-ending cycle of youngsters seeing their role models act like hooligans on TV and behaving an equivalent way when they too become professionals, must end immediately. Only we can do that by acting appropriately and it's only when we act in that manner, that will make football fun, safe and enjoyable to observe for people of all ages.
