ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE:

The EPL has been pretty tough this season with just 10 points separating the 1st position and 11th position teams, but it is not surprising to see the usual suspect, Liverpool being at the top as they defend their title.

However, a dismal run of games(2 consecutive draws) from Liverpool, and an amazing run from Manchester United, ensured that the former are just table toppers on goal difference as the latter clawed their way up to become joint table leaders. And both team sit 4 points above joint 3rd position holders, Everton and Leicester City.

The Reds will take on the saints on the 4th of January knowing fully well that 3 points is all that is needed.

SPANISH LALIGA SATANDER:

It is not too surprising to see Athletico Madrud at the top of the table with 2 points over 2nd placed and city rivals Real Madrid, but what is surprising is the fact that they have played 2 games lesser than Real which logically means that if they win those 2 games, they will be 8 points adrift Real.

The Rojiblancos' next game comes up tomorrow as they face off against Deportivo Alaves.

ITALIAN SERIE A:

AC Milan are currently too of the table with a point above city rivals Inter all thanks to the unbeaten run they have continued to maintain so far.

Although, they have seen Inter close up the 5 points gap between them to 1 after they(AC Milan) played 2 consecutive draws, I can still categorically say that these lads have been outstanding so far(can't wait to have Zlatan Ibrahimovic back as well), and they look like title contenders.

The Rossoneri's next game comes up tomorrow as they travel to face new league promoter, Benevento.

GERMAN BUNDESLIGA:

After their hard earned victory over Bayer Leverkusen, putting an end to their(Leverkusen) unbeaten run, Bayern Munich now sit top of the Bundesliga table with 2 points better off than joint 2nd placed holders(Bayer Leverkusen and RasenBallsport Leipzig).

Although Bayern have not really hit this season running as they ended last season, they have continued to show how domineering they could be when it comes to the Bundesliga.

The Bavarian's next game comes tomorrow as they host 17th placed Mainz.

FRENCH LIGUE 1:

Although Lyon are 1 point better than Paris Saint-Germain, they are joint top table topper with Lille, but a better goal difference places them at 1st position.

It is really amazing seeing both Lyon and Lille give Paris Saint-Germain a strong fight for the title this time.

Ligue 1 resumes on January 6th with Lyon hosting Lens, whilst Lille will also welcome Angers.

CONCLUSION:

Of all the 5 league, 3 are topped by teams we most likely wouldn't have given a chance before the kick off of this season(Athletico Madrid, AC Milan, and Lyon), whilst Liverpool and Bayern are really not having it all their way although they sit at the top of the table. This shows how intensified this season has been, and I think this will make League games more competitive and not just see popular teams run away with league titles.

Hopefully, we should get, at least, a new league champion at the end of the season , but before then, let's enjoy the intrigues that we would get.
