EURO 2020 - SPAIN and SWITZERLAND TO QUARTER FINAL

Spain qualified for the quarter-finals of EURO 2020 after defeating Croatia in the round of 16 match which took place at Parken Stadium, Copenhagen, Denmark, on Monday (27/6/2021) evening WIB. Eight goals were scored in Spain and Croatia during the 120 minutes of the match. Spain vs Croatia match went dramatically in normal time. The Croatian national team opened a 1-0 advantage after in the 20th minute the Spaniard Pedri made an own goal. Croatia's superior goal was inseparable from a blunder by Spanish goalkeeper Unai Simon who failed to control Pedri's ball. The 1-0 score for Croatia lasted until the first half ended.

In the second half the Spanish national team managed to rise and turn ahead after scoring three goals. Three Spanish goals were scored by Pablo Sarabia in the 38th minute, then Cesar Azpilicueta's goal in the 57th minute, and Ferran Torres' goal in the 77th minute. But Croatia did not just give up, in the last 10 minutes of the second half, Zlatko Dalic's men continued to press and managed to score two goals that forced Spain into extra time. Two goals that equalized the score to 3-3 were created by Mislav Orsic in the 85th minute and Mario Articleic in the 90+3' minute. The match went into extra time, Spain scored in the 100th minute through Alvaro Morata. In the 103rd minute, Mikel Oyarzabal closed Spain's victory to 5-3 and brought Spain through to the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, in another round of 16 match, France had to be eliminated after being defeated by Switzerland. The match, which took place at the Arena Nationala, Bucharest, on Tuesday (29/6/2021) early in the morning, ended with a score of 8-7 on penalties for Switzerland's victory. Haris Seferovic put Switzerland ahead thanks to his goal in the 15th minute. France came back and scored three to make it 3-1 through Karim Benzema's double in the 57th and 59th minutes, and Paul Pogba's goal in the 75th minute.

The Swiss national team, who were trailing 1-3, did not give up and came back to equalize to make it 3-3 through Haris Seferovic's second goal in the 81st minute and Mario Gavranovic's goal in the 90th minute. The Switzerland vs France match went into extra time and there were no additional goals in 2x15 minutes of extra time. So the winner in this match must be determined by penalty shootout. In the penalty shootout, five Swiss kickers did their job well. While Kylian Mbappe failed to complete his task as France's fifth kicker to thrill Yann Sommer's net.
