Hello everyone,

I am very grateful to the world of football community administrators and the moderators of this community for coming up with such a great contest.

It is always a pleasure to partake in a contest organized in this community. Because these contests are very educative and also for the fact that the leaders will take their time to read what has been written by a candidate.

I there present my entry to the contest most memorable football event.

Introduction

As we are all aware, lovers of the game of football partake in so many ways to ensure that the game is interesting and the best team carries the day. In the cause of partaking in these various forms to help grow the game and make it more enjoyable, several are the things that happen.

These things may make the game more enjoyable or more frustrated. Either of these two, we can have memories of them depending on how enjoyable it was for us or how frustrating and bad it was to us. For example a goal scored in an offside position but was not identify by referee will be frustrating to the team that conceded the goal and enjoyable for the team that scored.

On this note, my post will be about the frustrating memorable part of the game. My most memorable event in football is watching my dear Country Ghana kicked out in the 2010 world cup in South Africa after Louis Suárez prevented the ball from entering the post by turning himself to be a keeper.

I will therefore request that you come with me to visualize what transpired during that competition specifically the game between Uruguay and Ghana which is my most memorable football event.

I will want to begin by making all the teams that we're able to qualify and partook in the competition known to those who could not watch the game and those who have forgotten. Below is the table showing the various continent in the world and the team that qualified.

continentCountries that qualified
AfricaGhana, Côte d'Ivoire, Cameroon, Nigeria, and Algeria
AsiaAustralia, Japan, Korea Republic, and Korea DPR
EuropeThe Netherlands, Italy, Serbia, England, Spain, Germany, Denmark, Switzerland, Slovakia, Portugal, France, Greece, New Zealand, and Slovenia
South AmericaBrazil, Chile, Paraguay and Argentina, and Uruguay
North and Central AmericaUSA, Honduras, and Mexico.

All these teams were grouped in a group named A to H. Ghana found itself to be in group D. This group was made of Germany, Serbia, Ghana, and Australia.

How Ghana got there.

My beloved country Ghana was able to seal through this group by having 1 win, I draw, and 1Loss. In all Germany topped the group with six points and Ghana was second with four points same as Australia but they were having minus three goals so Ghana was able to qualify. The table below gives the statistics of group D after the three matches played by each team.

Australia11136-34
Serbia10232-13

After Ghana had seal through been second in the group, we faced winners of group C. In group C USA topped the group from this the round of 16 was between Ghana them.

Fortunately for us the Ghanaians, Asamoah Gyan was able to take us to the round of 8 by scoring a superb and winning goal against the Americans.

It is on this round that we met Uruguay and the whole drama came inside making it a memorable football event for me.

Uruguay vs ghana- the match to always remember

On July 2, 2010, around 6:30 PM ghana time, the football match between and Uruguay and Ghana began. Both teams were prepared just because it was the round of 8 and the team the progress forward has the opportunity to progress to the finals.

The starting XI for both teams is shown below.

The game began with the two teams playing vigilantly trying to keep their polls safe. In the 20minutes, Uruguay player "Fucile" received got a yellow card for the tackle he went on inkoom.

In about 18minutes afterward, Lugano was substituted for Scotti because of an ankle injury he got in the course of the game.

Just right before the first half, a pass from the midfield to the Ghanian player went to the striker Gyan but because he was surrounded by Uruguay he gave a pass to the midfielder again.

Muntari has been free in his position saw that the goalkeeper was not in his position so he gave a direct shot and it went straight into the net. Ghana was then leading by a goal to nil.

Right after the first half, Uruguay made another substitution by taking off Fernandez and bringing on Lodeiro.

Arvelo and John painstill both received yellow cards in the 48 and 54th minutes respectively.

Diego Folan was able to get behind the ball for a foul against Ghana. He was going to take the free-kick that resulted as a result of pianstill tackle. He was able to successfully convert the free-kick into the goal by placing the ball in the top right corner with Ghana's keeper unable to do anything.

The game continue and went into extra time. In the extra time first half still ended 1:1. The second half of the extra time continued with the dramatic scene.

In the die minutes of the game during the extra time, several opportunities were missed. in the additional minutes of the extra time is when Ghana had the opportunity to take the lead and hopefully win the game but this was stopped by Louis Suarez.

A freekick slotted inside by the Ghanaian midfielder was first headed away by the Uruguay defenders but couldn't go afar hence the Ghanaians were able to head it towards goal. After the ball has beaten the goalkeeper and was almost inside the goal post. Suarez from nowhere was able to punch the ball with his hands from the post as if he was the keeper.

He was shown a red card and he has to leave the pitch and the penalty was awarded to Ghana. Unfortunately the Ghanaian striker "Gyan" missed the penalty. The game then ended in a 1:1 draw.

The team to qualify has to be decided by penalty kicks and the result of the penalty kicks are shown below.

In conclusion

This is one of the most memorable football events I have witnessed not because I am a Ghanaian but because of how passionate the game was. I strongly believe that anyone that watched this game will have it among his or her memorable football games. Although Uruguay qualified they lost the semifinals and also lost the third place to Germany.
