Today I will be sharing with you the incredible come back of Man United from two goals down to three goals above against Atlanta.
Due to the poor performance of Man United in a 4-2 defeat to Leicester City in the Premier League on Saturday, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is under increasing pressure. After losing to Young Boys in their first match, United's last win came in this competition, with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring a late goal to beat Villarreal 2-1.
After a win and a draw in their first two games, Atalanta currently leads the group So far this season, they have gone undefeated on the road in all competitions (W3 D2) and i think it is high time United stops the record for them.
For United, Fernandes starts the game!
United has had a lot of possession in the first few minutes, but they haven't been able to take advantage of it. Wan-Bissaka tries to thread it through to Fernandes on the right, but Maehle deflects his attack.
Right in the first minutes, McTominay makes a strong drive through the middle before passing to Rashford. He's one-on-one with Musso, who rushes off his line in an attempt to close the angle, causing the forward to drag it wide. However, a late offside flag is raised, and it wouldn't have mattered anyway.
Atalanta uses a quick free-kick to catch United off guard, and Muriel drives down the right flank. He passes it to Zappacosta, who sends a dangerous low cross into the six-yard box for Pasalic to tap past De Gea ahead of Maguire. The VAR examines it for offside, but the goal stands! Atalanta is up 1-0!
Ronaldo takes the ball to the byline and lifts it into the box, leaving Palomino on the ground. Although it's too high for Fernandes, Fred brings it down on the far side before firing a shot on goal, which Musso tips over with his fingertips.
It's a fantastic corner, and United will find it difficult to defend another set-piece.
Man United captain Maguire loses Demiral in the box after a corner was floated in, allowing him to flick his header across goal, past De Gea, and into the left-hand corner. Atalanta is up 2-0!
Fred starts the move on the left and gets the ball back on the edge of the box, which is excellent play from United. He wraps the ball around De Roon and curls a shot to the far post. Musso is defeated, but his shot misses the mark.
Atlanta midfielder 'Palomino' just misses his clearance with slight deflection to Fernandes gave another great pass from deep in his half. It comes through to Rashford on the right side of the box, and he goes for power, but his effort goes over the bar.
The pressure from Atalanta on Manchester United has been tough and they find it difficult to control it, who lead 2-0 at halftime. After a quick free-kick, Pasalic tapped in from close range to break the deadlock just 15 minutes in.
After getting ahead of United captain Maguire came into the picture to flick in a header from a corner but colud not result in a goal, Demiral doubled the lead. On the other end, Musso made a fingertip save to deny Fred before the Brazilian fired wide and Rashford hit the crossbar on the half-hour mark.
The second half gets underway with Atalanta.
United have made a strong start to the second half, with Ronaldo staying onside to reach McTominay's pass. Musso spreads himself to smother the shot, which he takes early. On the follow-up, Rashford has a chance, but he misses wide.
Zappacosta makes a poor pass through the middle, giving the ball to Fernandes, who plays a fantastic pass to Rashford.
Musso rushes off his line as he runs in behind the defense to latch onto it, but the forward curls his shot around him and into the far post. 2-1!
Greenwood makes a right-handed cut inside and throws a dangerous ball into the box. McTominay extends his leg to touch it towards the goal, beating Musso, but it bounces off the woodwork.T he game has quickly opened up, and it is now Atalanta's turn to attack. Zapata gets away from Wan-Bissaka down the left flank and delivers a near-post cross that Fred blocks well.
Atalanta break quickly on the counter again, and Zapata picks out Koopmeiners by sliding the ball through Fred's legs. He attempts a shot from the edge of the box, but it is deflected by two large deflections and rolls into De Gea's gloves.
Zapata collects Zappacosta's throughball and turns past Lindelof before firing a low shot on goal. De Gea dives to his feet to keep it out, then scrambles back up to make another fantastic save to keep Malinovskyi's effort from the edge of the box out.
United's first corner is poor, but Sancho keeps the game alive on the right. Cavani riffles it on in the middle after he curls it back into the middle. Lovato misses it, and it falls to Maguire, who slams it into the bottom right corner. 2-2!
United midfielder 'Pogba' slides the ball out to the right, and Lovato who was there to interrupt completely misses the clearance after he had it, allowing Fernandes to sneak in behind him immediately. Before firing a shot down the middle, he takes it around two defenders.
United keep the ball after Fernandes' corner is cleared, and Shaw swings a brilliant cross in from the left. Ronaldo hovers in the middle, darting in front of Palomino to seize the ball. From close range, he thumps his header past Musso to put United ahead. United wins 3-2!
United defeats Atalanta 3-2 after a brilliant second-half comeback. At halftime, the visitors were up 2-0, thanks to goals from Pasalic and Demiral, who both took advantage of sloppy defending. Before the break, Rashford hit the crossbar before netting the game's first goal in the second half.
United goalkeeper De Gea made an incredible double save to keep his side in the game after McTominay hit the post if not it would have resulted in something very difficult for them to deal with.
The captain of the home side 'Maguire' equalized from a corner which was not controlled well by the away side minutes later making it more competitive, and it was Ronaldo who sealed the points for United in the 81st minute with a header.
It was a great game we witnessed on the Wednesday night football. Although I thought United should have won that game hands down without coming from behind. having said that they did very very well to come from behind to do this marvelous work to win.
