A fantastic competition that personally transported me back to 1998. As a young football fanatic at a time when the internet and computer around me was a science fiction story.
I dug up my old notebook where I was note of the World Cup 98.

The mascot is a rooster named Footix.
The rooster (Gallic Rooster) is the unofficial national symbol of France as a nation that takes its name from the Latin word "Gallus" meaning both "rooster" and "inhabitant of Gaul". Some ancient coins had the image of a rooster, but the bird was not used as the emblem of the tribes of Gaul. Although the Gallic rooster is not an official symbol of the Republic, it is still a certain image of France. The colors of the mascot are the national colors of France. The flag of the French Republic, also known as Tricolore, is a rectangle divided into three vertical stripes: blue, white and red.

The name of the mascot is a 'foot' from the word football and the end 'ix' to mean popular Asterix character, who lives in Gallic.
