Hello everyone. We have been given the opportunity to bring out our views on how to become a great footballer and I'm highly honoured to take part in this contest organized by @njaywan. But before i proceed with this contest, i will like to say Congratulations to all the winners of the just ended contest and Bravo to all those who participated.
As we already know, football is one of the most known sports with a huge number of followers all over the world. Wherever you turn to you will find a pitch, a ball and players. Players are an integral part of the sport. There are countless Football players who pride themselves as good football players.
Meanwhile, to stand out above the rest and be a world recognized Football player takes a lot. And that is what I'm exactly going to talk about in this post. There are several ways a player can adopt to become a great footballer and below are the ways;
There are many people who go to the pitch every day to play football and within these people some do it for fun, others do it part-time, and others do it as a lifetime career. If you have decided to take football as your life time career, you should have a burning desire to succeed as a great player. Having a burning desire in a sense that you should want it with all your heart, and it is all you think about. To an extent that, you should be troubled about your success. Only then, will you understand and do whatever it takes to make it as a great footballer.
Moreover, you should see it that you don't have a misplaced desire for the sport. For example, wanting to be cheered and praised by fans may be a misplaced desire. The needed desire is to have great football skills and what it takes to be a Footballer that will be admired.
In everything that you do, you need to keep practicing over and over just to be a master in it. In football you can't keep playing without training. As there is a saying that "hard work always pays" and it is a fact. If you want to become a great footballer, you need to train, train, and keep training some more. There is never enough knowledge to know when it comes to football. You always need to learn more in order to stay at the top and produce quality talent on the pitch.
You should, however, know the difference between learning and training and how to balance them. You can learn a new skill, then devote some time trying to execute the new skill. Although, many people have the talent to be play football but it is only the serious ones that will make it to the top with constant training and hard work.

Let's consider Cristiano Ronaldo as an example, he is one of the greatest footballers in the world, he is well known and recognized by the world due to his hard work and the time he devote in training just to overcome his colleagues footballers. Cristiano Ronaldo is a player who has the talent of a Footballer yet he keep training to be the best in the game, and yes he has surely made it through his hard work and constant training, winning 5 Ballon d'Or, 4 European golden boots, and many more. Only this should be good enough to tell you how constant training is essential in becoming a great player.
Goals are what keep us moving and they are our driving force as well. If you want to become a great footballer, you need to set goals for yourself that will keep driving you towards your ambitions. A good example of setting goals, is when you start out in an academy, you can decide on how long you would be there before recruiting into another club. When you know how long you want to stay at a particular club, you will work towards that to ensure you are on track to reach your goals.
However, when you are setting goals for your career, you should be attentive in setting realistic goals. You can't start out at the academy today and expect to be playing in the Champions League tomorrow, this is rather a dream. When you set realistic goals, then you will have a realistic way of approaching them.
Every game has its own rules as well as soccer. When you want to be a great footballer, you will need to have a clear understanding of the regulations involved in it. In football, there are rules that a player is expected to know and adhere to. Besides understanding and knowing the rules, you still need to know how to apply them, and how you can use them to your benefit. Furthermore, knowing the rules of the game will make you a better player.
Great players are made through motivation. With motivation, a player keep moving even if the odds are against you. Looking at some of the greatest games in history, you will realize that most of the games were won by motivation either within the teammates or the fans.
Considering the Euro 2016 finals between France and Portugal. The whole Portugal team gave up when their star player got injured but he was out and still believed they could do it and gave them the needed motivation and true to the testament, they did it. When you want to be a great footballer you look for something that motivates you and key in on it.
Mentor is a person who is in the same field as you are, and you look up to him/her and aspire to be like him/her one day. In football, there are legends that did wonderful things in the sport and you can scout your area to see who you will want to be like. Picking a mentor motivates you to work hard and attain the level of your mentor and by doing so can make you a great footballer.
It is not an easy task to be a great footballer in this modern Football without going through all the above mentioned and explained. Greatness is always what every footballer wants to attain aside from getting paid and one can do so by having a burning desire for the game, being motivated, constant training, setting goals, choosing a mentor and understanding the game as well.
