The Steem Indonesia community has always delivered excellent contests for it's audience, and so far in the season 6 engagement challenge, I have always admired your creative tasks. For week 6 the topic is titled THE ROLE OF WITNESS IN THE GROWTH OF STEEM by @steem.indonesia.

One of the most important aspects of the STEEM blockchain are witnesses, who secure and make the network reliable by validating and recording all transactions on the network. Yet, many people don’t know what they are or how they function.
Follow my article as I would be sharing my understanding and opinions on the topic.

Witnesses are essential for the functioning of the Steem blockchain, as they refer to individuals or organizations that secure and validate the transactions on the network. They maintain the overall stability of the network and help to prevent malicious activity.

Witnesses have the power to produce blocks on the Steem blockchain and approve transactions. In order to do this, they must maintain an up-to-date copy of the blockchain ledger, verify transactions, and sign off on new blocks.

They are chosen by votes, and anyone can become a witness as long as they meet the necessary qualifications. In return, when a witness produces a block, they are rewarded with STEEM tokens.

The role of witnesses is also important in governing the direction of the Steem blockchain. Witnesses vote on governance proposals, such as changes to the software and block production parameters. They also provide input into decisions made by the Steem Development Fund, which finances improvements to the network.

By ensuring that all transactions on the Steem blockchain are secure and valid, witnesses help to ensure its integrity, which in turn helps to maintain user confidence in the network, contributing to its continued growth.

Witnesses are elected by the Steem community through a voting process. Each user on the Steem blockchain has the ability to vote for 30 witnesses in order to determine who is a witness. Every day, all of the votes are tallied and the top 20 witnesses become active. This happens automatically and no manual intervention is needed.

The voting process is decentralized, which means that any user can cast their vote. Once a witness is elected, they are required to provide support for the Steem blockchain, including hosting nodes, processing blocks, providing security, and responding to any issues that arise.

By voting for witnesses, users are investing in the future of the Steem blockchain and helping to ensure that it will remain secure and prosperous.

If you don’t like the work that a particular witness is doing, or if you don’t agree with their views on the direction of the Steem blockchain, you can take action and vote for another witness.

When voting for witnesses, it is important to pay attention to the quality of the witness and not just their position on particular issues. Quality witnesses should have a good track record in terms of uptime, responsiveness, and technical understanding.

As a voter, it is also important to check out any past conflicts they have been involved in or proposals they have put forward. In addition to voting for witnesses, users can also run a proposal to replace an existing witness.

Proposals will be taken into consideration if they demonstrate why an alternative witness is better suited for the job. The Steem blockchain relies on its users to vote for witnesses they trust and to bring up proposals that are beneficial for everyone in the long run.
