"Challenges, Solutions and World Waste Problems"

in STEEM INDONESIA8 months ago

It is our challenge to achieve zero landfill waste management as early as possible. So our endeavours to continue to make this world livable and habitable sustainably.

STEEM INDONESIA Community's leadership role for organising such engagement challenge on a topic of deep concern deserves appreciation.

All the junk litters our planet and lots of it ends up in sea. In the middle of the Pacific Ocean there are two ilands of rubbish that together over five times the size of the whole of England or Ohio or Wyoming or as Michigan. No-one has worked out how to clean them up. So that they are getting bigger.

On land the rubbish that is not recycled goes into enormous pits called landfill. These pits are filled with rubbish to the top and then covered over. But as the rubbish rots it produces lots of s gas called Methane. Methane is what is known as 'Greenhouse' gas. Too much of greenhouse gas charges the world's climate and makes it hotter. Also nasty poisonous liquid leaks out and that has to be treated like sewage to make it safe.

What do you think when you see someone throwing rubbish carelessly? and, in your country what is the form of punishment for people who deliberately throw rubbish carelessly?

I personally feel force him to pickup door to door such rubbish for a week from his locality with monetory penalty.

If anyone found throwing rubbish on road is fined by the Municipality and recently it has been increased from ₹50 to ₹500 by Kolkata Municipal Body.

At your place, is waste used to increase income? What are the benefits of waste that can make money there?

Actually there are rag pickers who grabs certain items mainly plastic and electrical or electronic small items which goes to industries for recycling via middle man called scrap dealer. Daily plastic waste of Kolkata is between 500-1200 tonnes which is growing rapidly. In 2020 Maharashtra generated 443,724 metric tons of plastic waste. Annual per capita consumption of plastic is 20 kg in India. Banglore having population of 13.6 million it produces almost 4000MT of solid waste every day.

In your opinion, how do you manage household waste properly so that it does not have a bad impact on the environment?

From zero waste to 3R hierarchy Reduce Reuse Recycle strategy is the best option where waste is so huge. Cities like Bangalore, Kolkata and many other cities already collect recyclable waste from door to door which is very good practice. Most of states have already banned single use plastic and usage of plastic in packaging in India. Ahmedabad is the first city of developing countries has almost achieved the zero waste goal by processing 110,000 MT waste monthly.

In order to achieve this many cities already follow a state of art tecnology of waste management techniques as follows:

Unsorted garbage is transported to process hub from arround the city and emptied out at the plant From the ground it is lifted by a mechanical graber and damped into hopper where it is shredded down to a maximum thickness of three hundred millimetres. The optics recognise different waste materials on the belts. The different items like plastic film, papers are separated and the end item remains called refuse-derive fuel products. All the non- metalic products are stacked below the plant bay. Periodically these are belled and wrapped for recycled back into raw materials. The paper waste is recycled into tissue such as toilet rolls or hand towels. Plastics are recycled into new products.

Will the accumulation of large amounts of waste affect the comfort of people in your neighboring country? How did that happen? share your opinion

Indian 70% waste is collected, 20% is treated. The municipal solid waste is likely to increase by 250% by 2030 due to rapid urbanization and economic development.

Indian trash comprised one third of global waste. E waste collection and disposal is very significant to reduce landfill. Community participation may play a vital role in managing waste at the source of generation.

Now I would request three of my fellow Steemians to participate @aprendeconkevin @eveetim @solperez

It's true that I saw on the TV news that in India there was a lot of rubbish all over the place. And I often see on TV, even in urban areas, there is also a lot of rubbish. Let's throw rubbish together in its place. In order to maintain environmental health. Good luck in this week's competition my friend.

Hello friend
The surging increase in the price and fine for defaulters usually makes it worthwhile to prevent the act of irresponsible refuse disposal from increasing. It's a good thing to know that the dealers come and pick up tins of electric waste and plastics too, as the tins increases it saves your country from all the more stress and problems too. I enjoyed your entry and success in the challenge my dear friend
