Sol de Mañana geyser from the Eduardo Avaroa Andean Fauna National Reserve, Uyuni Desert, Bolivia (5 pics)

in Amazing Nature4 years ago (edited)

Eduardo Avaroa Andean Fauna National Reserve, is the home of volcanoes, high altitude deserts, lagoons of various colors, geysers, bubbling mud pools, rock formations and steaming hot springs.

The Reserve was created in 1973 with the aim of protecting the flamingos and vicuñas that inhabit the region.

Here you can see more than 80 different types of birds, the three species of South American flamingos, vicuñas, viscachas, Andean foxes and a wild South American camelid.

I did not had the chance to see them all unfortunately, maybe next time!

The Sol de Mañana geyser field is located between 4,800 and 5,000 meters above sea level.

There is a lot of geothermal activity in this area, so jets escaping geysers can reach a height of 10 to 50 meters; we have to be careful where we walk.

We all look intently at the pressurized steam gushing from the Sol de Mañana geyser in this very active volcanic area.

The calm before the storm...

When we see that it is bubbling a little more, we have to step back to admire the show!

Not far from there, in Termas de Polques, we can swim in thermal pools with natural water at 40 ° C, it was a good time.
