Amazing Nature Contest - January 2020 - #04
My entry for the #amazingnature contest hosted by @adalger
Beavers are as busy as they are amazing. Everytime I see a large tree and even small saplings chewed and fallen I pause and ponder.
How do they do that?
11/8/2019
Beavers eat the bark from the trees they harvest. The smaller branches become building supplies for their dens and creating dams.
Very resourceful mammals indeed.
Even after having have done some research and learning how strong and sharp their teeth are I will still always be amazed by this.
Come October I always see more beaver activity on land around the marsh. They up against time trying to store branches in the water for their Winter food source before the ice becomes to thick.
They do stray quite a distant from the marsh and their dens in quest for food and building materials.
I did a quick search to find a list of their predators. I came up a few. Otters, coyotes, fishers, brown and black bears. Also humans. I was surprised to see bears listed.
There are three active beaver dens/lodges in the marsh near my cabin. I think there might be a fourth one. I hope to do some exploring soon and confirm.
I shared this photo a few months back here on Steemit. This was taken from the inside of my cabin looking out the window.

Thank You..!!!!
@brittandjosie
I am most glad you and your boy enjoyed 💕.
It's so amazing how truly strong and sharp their teeth are. They can take down really really BIG trees too..😊.
There is a stark beauty to felled trees in the snow —- like sharpened pencils...
😊 !!
@yahialababidi
"like sharpened pencils" is a wonderful description...!!!!!!
Freshly fallen white snow is truly beautiful upon the landscape.
:-)
And the freshly fallen white snow is like a blank page for the sharpened pencils to compose their poetry upon :)
Keep up the good work!
😊
Thank You..!!
@yahialababidi
Wintery thoughts upon the pure white snow.
Quite unspoken thoughts change with the Seasons come and go.
😊
I had no idea this was what trees looked like after beavers chewed on them. I can't believe it, those teeth most be so sharp and strong!
😊 !!
@mariacaffrey
Very sharp and strong for sure..!!
I'm always amazed and impressed when see their work..
:-)
Wow... beautiful photography as always @annephilbrick .... do you ever make Short 1 minute videos while on your Nature Walks? You should definitely create a Youtube Channel and share there. Add some music from the Free copyright Free Youtube Music Library ... as soon as you get to 1,000 Subscribers on Youtube you Monetize with Adsense and could be earning an extra $1,000 a month. You can also share these short videos on HideoutTV for an extra $1,000 per month .... helps pay for some supplies and extra Solar Panels and batteries... https://hideout.tv/viewerSignup.php?refer=100525
😊
Thank you..!
@offgridlife
I really should do some video. I would love to be able to share the wonderful natural nature sounds I hear.
I will try and see if I can successfully setup a Youtube channel...😊. I didn't know they had a free music library..awesome too.
I've watched many of the wonderful videos you have created. I've been enjoying seeing your puppy Lola grow up. She's so beautiful..
Thank You for the link for hideout. I shall look into that as well..🤗.
Thank You.
:-)
Yes... you need to have a decent Youtube Channel up and running with a few Subscribers before you can get accepted on Hideout... but you would earn UsD $ from YouTube ,,... Steem when you share on Steemit, and more US$ from Hideout. It is very easy to share your Youtube Videos here on Steemit you just copy and paste the YouTube Link and the video gets embedded in your Steemit post.
A Sounds of Nature or Amazing Nature would be an awesome Youtbe Channel. You would get Millions of Subscribers and billions of views.
Looks amazing how precise and resourceful beavers are working on those trees.. and so systematically .. one in a kind cuties ^^.. If you ever encounter one of their lairs take some more pictures for us ;)
😊
Thank You !!
@adalger
Picture 6 in my post is a Beavers den/lodge. I haven't heard it called a
lairs. I looked it up 😊
Should I edit my post and establish that it is. The beaver's have a channel that leads to it. I couldn't get a better picture. The marsh wasn't frozen enough. Under the white snow is ice. Some of it is thick and some is not. The vegetation in the picture is difficult to walk on. It sinks down in some places where you walk.
I will be getting some clear pictures for sure. Hopefully soon.
I looked it up and they actually use the word lodge for their homes .. A den or lair seems to be a more general word for an amimals housing and the beavers den or lair is a lodge .. I hope I got it right.. It's so confusing sometimes with names, hehe.. I thing actually all three would fit ^^ .. I am already exited about the pictures of their.. "Little homes".. ;)
😊
It's amazing how many different names there are in nature ...🤗😉..!
They all mean the same as far I know.
I've always called them dens. My brother calls them lodges.
:-)
amazing fact: according to a special resolution of the Church, beavers were recognized as fish! so that Christians have the opportunity to eat meat on fasting days ...
nice post. upvoted!
😊
@qwerrie
Thank You ..!!
I did not know this... Wow..!!!
Definitely an amazing fact.
Thank You for sharing.
:-)
This is a pretty awesome post @annephilbrick, and as a professional tree trimmer I have always had an awesome respect for beavers, but we don't have them in this area that I live in. As far as what their living quarters is called, yes, it has been many things, but I have always heard the term "den" more than all the others.
One more of the tags you should have used is #education, and this is only a suggestion, that tag seems to do well.
😊
@jamerussell
I can totally understand why you truly have respect for them being a professional tree worker. They are very skilled trees cutter's and trimmers...🤗..!!!
Thank you for the tag #education.
I hadn't thought of it. It didn't dawn on me. Thank You..!!
:-)
Edit this post and put it in there, the only one that cannot be changed is the first one, the rest can be changed or added onto, and you get up to ten on Steempeak.
