Steem Debates #1 : The Club System

Greetings friends.

I find interesting the proposal of my friend @pennsif to debate about the way some strategies or dynamics are carried out on the platform, in this debate he takes into account the clubs, burnsteem, the challenges, the achievements of newcomers, community curators, Steem representatives, Booming, and I add #thediarygame (another topic for debate).

Heeding the call of this debate, I come to present my point of view first of all about the clubs, but before talking about the clubs, I would like to bring here a situation that happened 4 years ago, between April and May 2020.

Steemit suffered a bifurcation that generated a great capital drain, through the withdrawal of a large number of accounts or users, this resulted in a vacuum in terms of content support, in fact, among the users who had high Steem Power I only remember the friend @xpilar who gave his votes “without any condition”. Soon after, an important account began to appear, this is the famous Steemcurator01 driven by the Steemit team which had the mission to boost the amount of content, as well as the arrival of new authors.

With this premise, a new need begins, and that is that we cannot make a judgment without first seeing the background. After a while (I say this from my point of view), the Steemit team realized the following:

  • The amount of content and users was growing, and thus the scope of support for Steemcurator01 and 02 was smaller.
  • Many users were not taking advantage of the rewards to strengthen their accounts, showing that they were sowing in infertile soil.

It was clear that the Steemit team had the mission to promote the use of the rewards to transform them into Steem Power, and that the “author” users are able to provide value through voting to cover the need to support the content, at this point, I think it took into consideration several accounts as a reference, including that of the friend @genomil who through her investment plan showed her growth, and on the other hand, the one I shared where I promoted leveraging SBDs which allowed me to overcome the first dolphin.

Since then, and in spite of some resistance from users, the club system has generated a culture of growth never seen before in the platform, little by little dolphins were developed and nowadays we can already see some orcas, not only as users, but also as community accounts, which has allowed us to strengthen the support system towards the contents.

Now, after having spent at least 2 years since its implementation, according to my point of view, we can highlight the pros and cons:

The Pros:

  • It promotes the commitment to bet on Steem.
  • It generates the strengthening of the account with the purpose of contributing value to the vote.
  • Consolidates community growth, decreasing dependence on the use of paid voting services to receive good rewards.
  • Allows savings and long-term “personal benefit” gains.

The Cons:

  • Some abusers generate multi accounts to strategically join them to #club100 and try to generate rewards, drawing the attention of the main curators, taking advantage of the support system.
  • It became mandatory in order to effectively participate in community challenges.

Now then.

What do I think of the clubs:

Are clubs good.

The clubs have been successful, as I said before, currently they have managed to develop the growth of many accounts, forming an integral community where content creators have become potential “community” curators, which was and should be one of the purposes of the Steem team. The clubs have allowed the effective inclusion of the “content creator” user with the platform.

Should they be modified / or should they be eliminated?

I have learned during my professional life that successful strategies should not be modified, let alone eliminated, however, there should be more flexibility when deciding to support good content as long as it has been shared by a reputable account, since the support program provided by Steemit has brought to the ecosystem a number of ghost accounts that leave and disappear after having obtained certain profits.

If Clubs were to disappear, would there be any other way to encourage people to get stronger?

Certainly, the culture of growth is often driven by motivational dynamics, as was Spud4Steem promoted by friend @kiwiscanfly, where delegation was provided to those who made the biggest Steem power-up.

What are your ideas?

From the entrepreneurial point of view, it is not wrong that whoever has the capital to develop a project, should maintain his position with respect to the strategies he believes convenient to apply. From the community point of view, it is good that the leaders are committed to teach their members to develop a growth that is beneficial to all those who make life in the community, and from the personal point of view, everyone has the decision to develop their own growth, taking into account the consequences that derive from them.

Anything that is beneficial to the platform in general is to be welcomed.

Thank you for your attention.

Sort:

There is no doubt that @steemcurator01 and the steemit team have contributed to the growth of the community after the split with Hive.

What do I think of the clubs:

The clubs are a great measure for growth, #club5050 is what gives the most profit as long as SBD prints, exchange SBD to steem and power up. STEEM POWER increases at an APR of approximately 2.74%, I think that many people don't think about that profit.

The clubs and the steemit team will probably not be here forever because it was meant as a contribution to local communities to be able to grow and take care of their own members. Maybe Spud4Steem should be a competition for every local community once a month.

Greetings friend @xpilar

That's right, the clubs have been very important in raising awareness about investing in the blockchain. I have been surprised that after 4 years, the Steemit team is still providing this great support. The Spud4Steem is still a good option to motivate power up.

Thank you, friend!
I'm @steem.history, who is steem witness.
Thank you for witnessvoting for me.

The weight is reduced because of the lack of Voting Power. If you vote for me as a witness, you can get my little vote.

¡Excelente aporte, amigo @adeljose!
