Assalamu Alaikum.
Hello everyone,

I learn something every day from this platform; it is another platform for my knowledge acquisition, so I like this platform a lot. In the learning challenge given by ma'am, today, there was a lot of knowledge-based presentation on swelling and pain, which was amazing. I will participate in this competition today.
✅ First you have to share your knowledge about swelling, it's type and pathophysiology. (Explain only 4 types no need for extensive knowledge) |
---|
🟥Swelling
Swelling means edema. There is always a balance between the body's tissues and blood vessels, but when this balance is lost due to any injury, swelling occurs in the body. Swelling occurs due to the accumulation of excess fluid in any part of the body.
🟦 Types of swelling: 4 types of explanation
Type | Location | Cause | Symptoms |
---|---|---|---|
peripheral edema | Hands, feet and ankles | Heart, kidney, liver problems | Swelling in the feet and ankles. |
Pulmonary edema | Lungs | Heart failure | Difficulty breathing |
cerebral edema | Brain | Head injury from infection | Headache |
Lymph edema | Arm or leg (one side) | Lymphatic vessel obstruction | Persistent swelling, heaviness |
🟩Pathophysiology
Main cause | Explanation | Example |
---|---|---|
Increased capillary pressure | When the pressure inside the blood vessel increases, fluid leaks out of the blood vessel | Heart failure |
Decreased protein in the blood | When the protein in the blood decreases, water tends to be drawn towards the tissue | Liver cirrhosis |
Increased capillary permeability | At the site of inflammation, the walls of the blood vessel become loose and fluid leaks out | Infection |
Lymphatic vessel obstruction | The drainage of lymph fluid is blocked, and it accumulates | Post-surgical swelling. |
✅ You have to find a patient with the symptom and share history of injury or illness. You can also share your history too if your suffer from any injury recently that is present with symptom of swelling. |

I myself am a sufferer of this disease. I love playing cricket. About 5 years ago, when I was batting in cricket, the ball came at high speed and hit my hand. I got hurt a lot, and my hand swelled up immediately. Some of the injured areas turned black. I immediately applied water to them. However, since my injury was very bad, I rested for a long time. I took treatment and took medicine as per the doctor's advice.
When my pain reduced in this way, I could not lift anything heavy with that hand; then the pain would return, and this pain would feel like the first pain. I had to rest again to reduce the pain.
Now I am fairly healthy, but I still feel small pain in that area sometimes, and then I immediately apply ice. This reduces my pain a little.
✅ It would be better if you treat the patient pain by performing or apply above given physiotherapy management, share videos or pictures while performing and then review after getting treatment. (Try to use 2 methods at least) |

I myself am a patient, as I have said before. My pain is in the bones. I think when the amount of calcium in my body decreases, I feel a little pain as soon as I get an injury in that painful area.

So when I have pain, I first put ice in a cloth and apply it there. I don't apply ice directly because it will be harmful to me, so I use a cloth for this. I have been applying ice like this for quite some time, and I apply it every day until the pain subsides.

Although it is a bone pain, the pain becomes intense due to the movement of the bone, so I bandage it so that the bone does not move. Again, I do not put too much pressure, so I bandage it tightly. I have given a video of applying ice and a bandage to my injured hand in the video. Applying a bandage helps me heal faster.
