The Debate ( No 19): Riches vs Happiness

Riches and happiness are used interchangeably
in our modern society because of their similarities and importance. We see riches as the possession of material things and can lead to satisfaction of physical needs and wants. Then happiness is the intrinsic source of satisfaction whereby an individual is satisfied with or without riches. These two things has been a bone of contentment. But for me, I'll choose Riches over Happiness. Here are my reasons.

• Problem Solving Mechanism: Riches (money) has been the game changer for a while now. It has the ability to break down or dissolve problems. A proven fact has shown that the solution of over 90% of man's problems is connected to financial aspects. So, I'll choose riches to alleviate majority of my problems which in turn bring satisfaction and peace of mind to me.

• Happiness Creation: Did you know that riches can generate happiness in a man? Let me show you how. Imagine an individual who hasn't eaten for day and has nothing in his or her bank account. At an instant, the individual saw a credit alert on his or her phone. The happiness felt that moment will be indescribable. Creating happiness through riches for me is embarking on an adventure. Adventures like hiking, picnic, visit to places of interest with loved ones are things that can trigger happiness. These happiness can become a lifelong memory.

• Embarking on Charitable Works: Who said riches is not good when you can use it to create a positive changes in the society. Riches can trigger a person to help another individual who is in dire needs. Looking at our current society where unemployment and hunger thrives, there is a way to help alleviate this. Imagine cracking a joke to a hungry man, the results will be different what you expect. But giving out resources in term of wealth can create between you and the person involved.

Conclusively, happiness is important in a man's life but it isn't complete without riches. A man of riches is an emitter of happiness to himself, his family and his world of contact. So, if you are given opportunity to choose, please choose wisely.
