RE: The Debate (no.19); in support of wealth over happiness
I don't know how many really rich people you know... I don't think you would envy them. But I admit that I myself would also find it difficult to weigh up wealthy vs. happy. Because I don't rate either particularly highly, to be honest. Happiness is a snapshot in time. What really counts is contentment. Inner contentment, self-sufficiency, balance. They don't work when you're rich. Then you feel constant pressure - yes, maybe in first class or the VIP lounge. But pressure causes damage...
While I was making this post, I actually asked myself what if a “ wishing genie” comes and tell me to pick between this two options, what will I do??
The truth is that, they both have their advantage and disadvantages. The reason I picked “wealth” was because I have this feeling that with money you can buy “happiness”. But then again, if we look at the story of king Solomon, the richest man in the Bible, even with all his riches, I can’t really say in the end he found true happiness because if he had, he won’t make the statement “vanity upon vanity, all is vanity”.
I hope you can let go of this illusion soon... Only then will you be open to happiness!
Yes ma’am!!😊
