The Debate (Week 36): Artificial Vs Human Intelligence

It appears that these days one cannot browse the internet and social networks in particular without coming across something related to AI, is it not? We are now in the AI era and AI systems have become so advanced that what we used to watch in sci-fi movies is now coming to life. Today, our topic of debate is Artificial vs. Human Intelligence. Let's have a discussion on this.

First of all, let’s discuss the speed of AI. When it comes to speed, we can put AI at the top of the list. AI does not get tired and can work at any time without feeling any level of fatigue. Do you have a problem that you are seeking a solution for? AI will solve it in seconds; all you need to do is input the data and obtain the output.

But is this speed better than human creativity? Of course, there is one thing that AI does not have – human intuition. Emotions and intuition are the sources of human intelligence. At times, one gets to discover such solutions that are only possible in the human mind. AI can only do what it has been designed to do while humans can create a new idea.

Now, let's discuss reliability. AI is founded on data and algorithms; therefore, it is rather reliable. But if there is an error in the data, AI will give wrong results since it depends on the data given to it. Human intelligence on the other hand is capable of learning.

If a person did not get something or there is a mistake, he or she can learn it and correct it in his or her own way. People are very versatile and they will always find a way of doing things. AI lacks this flexibility. When an AI program is presented with a problem it has not been trained to solve, it gets stuck.

Now let me give you an example. Programs that play chess like Deep Blue and AlphaZero have defeated the world’s best chess players. But when AlphaZero was playing against Magnus Carlsen, the world champion, Magnus made some moves against AI that it could not predict. He went by his gut feeling and emotion and was even able to win some matches. Here, however, AI was fast and efficient, but creativity and the ability to adapt to a new situation of human were greater than AI.

So, the question arises: which is more important in solving problems AI or human intelligence? Honestly, it's not either-or. AI is very useful for the routine tasks where you need speed and efficiency. However, when it comes to the problems that are not well-defined, chaotic, or require some brainstorming or empathy? That is where we humans excel.

Now, what if we joined forces? If we team up, we can easily overcome many difficulties that are difficult to overcome. AI can handle big data and humans can then take that big data and use it for creating new ideas. For instance, if a doctor is attempting to identify a patient with a specific disease that is rare, AI can immediately look for the data and present the possible diseases that the patient has. However, the choice of the final treatment and the sequence of actions will be made based on the doctor’s imagination and practice.

Well, you know, at the end of the day, we require artificial intelligence and human intelligence. It is all about achieving that balance. AI is best used when you want something fast and efficient, especially when it comes to calculations, but when it comes to decision making, especially when it is complex, it is best to turn to a human for help. If only we can find a way on how to complement each other, then, who knows? We might just solve some of the world’s biggest headaches.

I want to say this much that Humans have been given the status of 'Ashraful Makhloqat' (the best of creation) by Allah. Therefore, human capability is the most in this world.

AI has been created by humans for their own convenience. Just like other inventions, everything is speeding up with time. Everyone is short of time, and everyone wants to get their work done as soon as possible. AI plays a huge role in this.

As you mentioned in your post, AI processes data according to what it is given. If there is any defect in that data, AI will not be able to perform the task correctly. In short, I want to say that AI cannot do anything on its own until humans give it orders.

Thanks for sharing your great Knowledge. And Keep Up the Good Work

Absolutely. You just made a valid point. I tell end is always the combination of both artificial intelligence and human intelligence to get a reliable data. Thanks for sharing.
