Let's Debate #18 - Homeschooling vs Traditional schooling

in Steem Fashion&Style7 months ago (edited)

The whole idea behind school(ing) is to learn improve or discover new skills. If this is not the case, school is not only boring but above all a waste of time, energy and money.

At primary schools in the Netherlands, language (writing and reading), mathematics, history, geography, biology, drawing, crafts and various other lessons are taught. Tempo reading and level reading are also part of the lesson. In addition to gymnastics, some schools participate in swimming lessons. English is taught in the highest classes and these children are also taught how to use a school calendar in which homework must be written down.

Primary education is where most basics of learning take place. Anyone who knows the basics can train themselves through practice, especially in today's world with the Internet at hand, a visit to the library is no longer necessary.

Primary school students who do not understand or complete the material have to figure it out at home. If they are lucky, a parent can help them.

Most parents will choose the school building because it functions as childcare meaning
the parent can rest or go to work. Primary school is from approximately 3.5 years old to approximately 12 years old.

If it comes to home schooling we do not have this choice, but anyone who takes up the fight and never lets their child go to school will win. This is because the law only talks about compulsory education and compulsory education is not the same as being present in a school building.

Over the past 35 years, I have seen the quality of education deteriorate rapidly. It is chaos and there is always noise in the classroom, in addition to students, teachers are also bullied.
This is not a pleasant learning environment for my children. The travel time (4 hours), getting up early and being home late also do not outweigh the not even minimal amount of time invested in teaching something new, checking completed homework or explaining what the student did not understand.

My children are bored to death at school and don't see the point of going over there they consider it a waste of time. What the school "teaches" in one year they can do/learn within one month if not less.

I homeschooled all my children in addition to school and their knowledge was much higher back then. My son recently said that he has only gotten dumber in the past 5 years. Being in a class full of troublemakers who don't want to learn anything is difficult for him. He finds it hard to concentrate.
Even the youngest no longer likes to go to school. She drags herself over there with a heavy heart. The teacher stated that in the new system, she was no longer a teacher in the essence of the word. Students have to figure everything out for themselves and most of it at home.

Given the above experiences and facts, I argue for a different education system. Let those who need the physical school go and those who can learn better at home stay at home. Especially after primary school, it should be possible to attend only those lessons where there is a need.

In addition, it would be wise if learning could be done as we did for ages by apprenticing with a professional. Society needs professionals, people with skills and this is only possible by doing what children like and by practising as often as possible, to many children gazing at books not the way and this doesn't mean they are stupid. If school isn't attractive children give up on learning and drop out.

Each child has his way and rhythm of learning.

Research shows that children who are homeschooled know more, are higher educated and can do more than those who visit a regular school. It is a fact that regular education is no longer of much value since illiteracy is only increasing and that in a country with compulsory education and where children are forced to visit school from the age of 4 years old!

We do not all suffer if we stay home and can do as we like, it's a relief to Cartman social distancing is introduced and with him many felt the same. All people, students included, having a hard time because of others, the noise, the crowds, not able to concentrate the bullying. South Park might be a satire series but what we see is not just made up, the truth is hidden in what we laugh about.

Hi. I can tell for some time I thought being at home and social distancing was made for me. After bad experiences with problematic neighbors I just changed to the opposite. Today I balance both things and I think going out, enjoying sunlight and the company of others makes good. I don't think me and my daughter find everything we need locked up at home. I was a school teacher for a long time and I know it can turn boring, but there are other benefits you can get from school besides knowledge. Also, no every parent likes teaching their sons, knows how to or can do it, in your case you can and I'm sure you are a great teacher for them. So, there's a lot of conditions to consider for making a decision in this matter.

Thank you very much for the invitation.

I agree with you by far not every parents like it and that's why children are sent to school to get rid of them but I am not that parent and my children are different and need more not the low education for the average child who wrecks down the classroom.
I plea for a change of schooling in my country.

So far my children do not have any benefits from school that's the saddest thing.

Sun, going outside I can and always did I live in the country and have a garden.

If you ask me most children live behind the screen so I doubt each one of them misses school.

Perhaps you join just like some other teachers I invited?

Hi Kitty, I have a memory of the Netherlands and its high-level school organization. It comforts me to know that you are facing problems similar to ours. Wow, 4 hours of travel is really commendable! 😅

We are no longer in the top of best schools. It's an E U rule to change schools in a way that dumb and dumber can be created. The best people a go vernment can wish for.

Good to hear the E U is united!

👍🍀❤️
