Contest || Unlock Your Creativity || Week - 19".
As a passionate fashion designer, one of the most exciting moments for me is creating a brand-new dress from starting to the finishing in my shop. Sewing isn’t just a profession for me, it’s a beautiful art and a way of life. It's a passion, a form of expression, and a source of joy to me.
Today, I want to take you through the interesting steps I follow each time I sew a new dress for a client or for display in my little growing shop.
From the sound of my sewing machine to the touch of fabrics and the joy in my clients' eyes, every stage in the process tells its own story and am here to share with you the step by step processes I took.
Step 1: Getting the Idea and Inspiration |
---|
Every perfect design starts with the conception of idea, visualizing and picturing it beautiful from the mind. You can get it from a trending style, a client’s request, or even a creative spark that comes from within or your own creativity. To me sometimes I either sketch it down or visualize it clearly in my mind before proceeding. Once I’m clear on the concept, picture it from the fabric brought, if it suits both the style and purpose of the dress. I take time to feel the texture, imagine the drape, and visualize how it will look on the body of the customer. If it my own dress, I wrapped it over my body , look myself on the mirror, picture our the perfect design.
Step 2: Taking Accurate Measurements |
---|
Once an certain with the style I need or the customer, I proceed to taking the precise body measurements of the client . This is a very important step because a good fit starts with good measurements. I make sure I note every detail from bust to waist, hips, shoulder width, and length of the dress.
For this dress, the measurements I took were;
Bust: 34
Waist: 29
Sleeves l: 24
Hips: nil
Shoulder 14
Length 35
Half cut 15
These measurements guided every cut I made and ensure a perfect fit. Any wrong cut could affect the entire dress giving you a different thing or style.
Step 3: Cutting the Fabric |
---|
Here is where the fun begins! I lay the fabric on my cutting table, use the measurements I earlier took to draft the pattern or mark directly on the fabric, then carefully cut out the pieces. Focus and precision is needed here. This is where the skills really matters.
How I cut the fabric:
I first of all, measures out the half cut 15inches, then I make a cut
Then I divided my bust and waist into 4 , then I have my shape.
After offing the half cut, from 1-15 , and my down cut from 15-35inches. My perfect short gown was ready for stitches.
Step 4: Sewing and Joining Pieces |
---|
This is were stitches begins, joining the pieces together. I always sew with love and patience, making sure every seam is clean and strong. To have a perfect and neat job done, I iron at every stage to make the dress look smooth and neat and exhibits some sort of professionalism.
Step 5: Adding Style and Finishing Touches |
---|
Finishing touches is very important in any kind of work. It speaks professionalism and perfection. To me, After the main sewing, and adding all the style details whether it’s ruffles, zippers, buttons, or lace. I also hem the edges neatly and do the final ironing. Sometimes I even hand-stitch parts for that perfect finish. Then i took it to weaving to have a neat job.
Step 6: The Final Look |
---|
When am done and ok with my work. I hang it proudly and admire the beauty of my work. If it’s for a client, I schedule a fitting session and make adjustments if needed.
My greatest joy is always the satisfaction of my client. Because there’s nothing more fulfilling than seeing someone wear your design with joy and confidence, it makes me feel good about my work .
Conclusion. |
