Today, I'm excited to take part in the Steemit Engagement Challenge-S12W5, hosted by Steem Fashion&Style community. In this challenge, we've been asked to share our favorite travel destination. Personally, I have a strong passion for traveling and seize every opportunity to embark on new adventures. So, in this competition, I will have the pleasure of revealing my all-time favorite travel destination.

What are your favorite travel destinations and why?

Certainly, and I've mentioned in previous writings that my preferred destination is the island of Djerba. However, what makes me adore Djerba?

I hold a deep affection for Djerba because it still experiences distinct seasons, and I can sense and embrace these seasons, especially through the food I consume. Currently, there's a limited variety of fruits like oranges, and we savor them. As other fruits make their appearance, it signals the arrival of summer. In contrast, in the city, you can acquire the same fruits and vegetables all year round, from January to December.

Djerba captivates me with its harmonious symphony of sounds: the morning serenades of roosters, the chatter of chickens, the bleating of sheep, the braying of donkeys, the soothing sound of the sea rolling, the gentle lapping of waves against the rocks, the melodious whistling of birds, the rustling of leaves, and most importantly, the profound silence. This silence is pure, enduring, untouched by noise pollution; it's a silence like no other.

The island's allure lies in its radiant light and vibrant colors: the azure sky and sea, the blue hues of doors and window frames, the sandy shades, the lush green of palm trees, olive groves, mint, and peppers, the whites of traditional houses (menzels) and sea foam, the various browns found in wood and dates, and the lively colors adorning flowers, fruits, foutas, and the attire of traditional women. And then, there's the incomparable light of Djerba—extraordinary, ethereal, and beyond description. One must experience it firsthand—observing the morning light, the mesmerizing sunset, and the captivating post-sunset light.

I cherish Djerba for its unhurried pace of life, its delectable cuisine, its fragrant scents, and its unique rhythm. My love for Djerba is deeply rooted in its timeless and otherworldly essence, detached from the hustle and bustle of the everyday world.

Any specialty of that particular area.

Last year, I stayed for a few days in a guest house, nestled in the heart of the Djerba countryside. Despite the proximity of Midoun and the tourist area, we were completely detached from this artificial world. The Djerbian countryside is made up of dirt paths, lined with adobe walls, inviting you to take a pleasant walk, magnificent white houses surrounded by orchards, as well as menzels, some in better condition than others. There we discover old wells and traditional constructions, women dressed in white or a thousand colors, men wearing straw hats, warm greetings, a timeless world.

A closer look at a map of the island reveals that the tourist area, with its hotels, restaurants, shops and nightclubs, actually occupies a small portion of the coast, extending between Mezraia and Midoun. Outside this area, there is the Djerbian countryside with its villages preserved from the tourist influx, the maze of cobbled streets of the Medina of Houmt-Souk, various places of worship such as the church, the synagogue , and the mosques with fascinating architecture, the pottery workshops of Guellala, the wild coast with crystal clear waters where the colorful boats of fishermen sail, long deserted beaches, lagoons, and much more...

Any special moments/events related to your favorite travel destinations.

My visit to the Guellela Museum which is part of the visits when we go to Djerba. On the road we discover to arrive at the museum an authentic pottery manufacturer who shows you his know-how, a descent into a cavity where the clay is collected and lots of exhibits.

In the museum we immerse ourselves in the customs and costumes of Tunisian life. The museum exhibits collections of objects and several scenes, it is made up of several blocks, each block has its name and presents a different theme; celebration (wedding and all preparation for the ceremony) traditions and customs, myths and legends, pottery and mosaic, traditional music.

Never felt so captivated in a museum in Tunisia, frankly great, you quickly feel belonging to the works on display, you immediately find your true identity, your heritage, your values, your riches, your cultures.
