SFS Contest Week 11 | Skincare Ingredient (Turmeric)

Hello, everyone! I trust we are doing well and having the best of this week. Thank you @ashkhan for bringing this contest once again after the last episode. This week is for tumeric.

Tumeric as a skincare ingredient:

Tumeric is a stem crop that looks like ginger. The difference between tumeric and ginger is their distinct inner colours. While tumeric is orange in colour, ginger is yellow in colour. Tumeric just like ginger is used as spice to make dishes and it can sometimes be eaten raw. It can be form in its seed form or powder form.When eaten in dishes or raw, the body gains the nutrients available in tumeric.

Tumeric contains an curcumin which have antioxidant and antiinflammatory properties, Vitamin C, Vitamin B6, and also minerals like magnesium, iron and potassium. These are what make tumeric very useful to us. Tumeric performs different functions when used on the skin or hair. Tumeric is not used in isolation but incorporation with other useful ingredients to get maximum effects.

Benefits of tumeric on the skin

Tumeric when applied on our skin performs the following functions.

• It helps in eliminating harmful free radicals from the rays of the sun that are damaging the skin.
• It enhances collagen production which is the enzyme that helps in keeping the skin moisturized and enhances its elasticity.
• It helps keep the skin supple and glowing through its anti-inflammatory properties.
• It helps in the eradication of wrinkles.
• Tumeric also helps in clearing dark circles.
• It enhances the removal of dark heads from the skin.
• It helps in slowing down the loosening of the skin.
• It has healing properties that help rejuvenate the skin

These benefits are what enhances the glow and healthy appearance of the skin.

Benefits of tumeric to the hair

The application of tumeric on the hair incorporated with other skin/hair care ingredients brings about the following.

• It helps in controlling dandruff.
• It helps in enhancing the health of the scalp.
• It enhances the repair of damaged hair follicles.
• It enhances hair growth.

These benefits help in keeping the hair healthy and good looking.

To get these benefits, tumeric needs to be inculcated into our daily routines for skincare abd haircare. For me, I do not use these everyday. I used it for glowing skin and dark heads twice a week and for the hair when the need for it arises. Too much of it might not be good for the health of our hair or skin.

Tumeric is normally used in paste form as a mask and so it requires a liquid medium to be used in mixing the tumeric powder. The powder form is used because its work rate is faster than that of the seed form.

Homemade remedies for some skin diseases using tumeric

Glowing skin

Ingredients needed:

• tumeric powder
• gram flour
• liquid milk or water

Usage:

• mix the tumeric powder, gram flour and milk or water and into a paste.
• apply on the needed part of the skin
• Allow it stay on the skin for 10 minutes.
• rinse it off with warm water.

Treatment for dark heads

Ingredients needed:

• tumeric powder
• mint juice

Usage:

• mix the tumeric powder with the mint juice into a paste.
• apply on the affected area.
• allow it to satay for a few minutes.
• wash off with warm water.

Homemade remedies for hair problems using tumeric

Treatment for hair loss

Ingredients needed:

• tumeric powder
• olive oil

Usage:

• mix the turmeric powder and olive oil to get a paste. The paste should not be too thick.
• apply it all over the hair and massage it into the scalp.
• allow it to stay for some minutes.
• wash it out using shampoo.
