SFS Contest Picture of the Day Week 55

In the city of Nasarawa State will tell you something about the life of a people and small, yet significant tales, which lay in the small streets. There were clouds in the sky above, with the sense that a downpour must be imminent, but the beat of life went on vigorously and decisively upon the ground.

This avenue is home to a lot of lives just like many others in the centre of Nasarawa. Cars were fighting over space, bikes were riding at very high speeds, and people were walking in a slow manner to cross the road. It was crowded and hectic, but also seemed to be exactly balanced. Each one of us had our mission but somehow we all fit in the same stream of life. That scene brought back to my mind the variety of human paths, but also how we are still all very close to each other, in our common places.

On the left, merchants were sitting calmly with their umbrellas and zinc shades showing the goods that nourish their families. On the right, a sign board of a small communication shop was proudly displayed, which shows that there is local business that keeps the street alive. Even the smallest details in the frame told stories by themselves, the motorbike rider in suit, the one who was to be either formal or to survive; the calmly walking woman in the midst of rushing; the young riders who awaited their next customer. Collectively, they had illustrated an image of endurance.

This image is my picture of the day not because anything peculiar happened, but because it was a picture of silent beauty of everyday struggle and community. It made me wonder that not everything memorable is a cause to celebrate or ceremony when it may be in the streets we go through every day, the faces of people we do not know, the hum of motor-cycles, the strengths of the common man.

Nasarawa at that point was not only a place but also a reminder of how life lives well in simplicity and how any street is a place of stories worth telling.
