"SACRIFICE"
Hello, esteemed Steemit family! How are you? Hope you are fine. I am glad to participate in this contest titled "Sacrife". Special appreciation to @mostofajaman and the Steem Fashion&Style community for organising this contest. I hope you will enjoy my participation.
Introduction
We generally make sacrifices in life. Sometimes to a deity, sometimes to others and sometimes to ourselves. Which ever one we make in life, there is a benefit whether to the giver or the recipient.
Who do we sacrifice for?
We make sacrifices for people who are in need. These people in need may be our family members, friends or neighbours. Sometimes, they may be people we do not even know.
We can also make sacrifices for ourselves as we stand to enjoy the benefits now or later in life.
Why is it important to sacrifice?
It is important to sacrifice because:
- You meet the need of someone who does not have the strength or capacity to handle the situation at the moment.
- You give hope to someone who might have given up hope due to lack.
- You put a smile on the face or faces of people
- It strengthens relationships.
- Sacrifices teach us how to prioritize our values and goals
What sacrifices have you made in your life and why?
One of the sacrifices I have ever made in my life is giving up my Android phone to someone who dearly needs it.
I gave this android phone to a lady whose parents are in the village but she stays with a family here in Akwanga and was schooling at Nasarawa State College of Education Akwanga. I gave her the android phone to support her in carrying out her assignments. With the Android phone, she doesn't need to spend money going to the cyber cafe for browsing or research but rather in the comfort of her house. She doesn't receive enough financial support from her foster parent to comfortably cater for her needs so I stepped in.
It was truly a sacrifice for me because I do not have another Android phone at the moment but my goal is to ensure that she has something (an Android phone) that can give her a boost in her studies.
What is the original meaning of Sacrifice and what do we achieve by sacrificing?
The word SACRIFICE comes from the Latin word sacrificium, from sacer, meaning “holy,” and facere, meaning “to make.” The root saucer is also the basis for words like sacred and sacrilege. Therefore, sacrifice is originally the offering of material possessions or the lives of animals or humans to a deity as an act of propitiation or worship. But today we mostly use sacrifice as giving up or surrendering something valuable to us for the sake of others or the sake of the future.
What we sacrifice in life could be our resources, our time, our energy, our intellect, our lives etc. With these sacrifices, we stand to achieve:
- The immediate need of the recipient is attended to. This is when we do it for the sake of others.
- We stand to benefit in the future. This is if we sacrifice for ourselves.
- We will establish, maintain, or restore a right relationship with our God or gods. This is when we sacrifice to a deity.
