The Debate (Week 14); Should Students Be Allowed to Use Phones in School: Yes or No?

The main essence why all children are sent to school is to acquire an education and use that knowledge for productive purposes. The 21st-century child is no exception.
The issue however is that these kids now have more distractions compared with the former generations. One of which is the mobile phone.
Do not get me wrong.
Mobile phones are one of the world's greatest innovations of all time but they are also the worst. In this post, I will support the claim that Students should NOT be allowed to use phones in school.
While the word “student” might be ambiguous, it is pertinent to note that the word used in this context refers to all children of school age attending either secondary institutions or lesser.
I'll be supporting this notion with 3 solid points.
1. The issue of the attention span
Every day, the average human’s attention span is reduced by a few per cent. Currently, a person can give 8 seconds to 1 hour of their time to a task. However, this is relative to a couple of factors like the person's age, interests, schedule, etc. Children have the shortest attention span. During classes, they are most likely to lose this little attention. So they distract themselves by playing or fiddling with their phones (if this device is permitted).
2. This time-eating device called a phone
Most people I have met spend 2-8 hours on social media daily. The higher the time spent, the less productive they become daily. For children, it is worse. But one can not blame them, especially because their prefrontal cortex hasn't developed fully yet. This part of the brain helps people make better decisions. However, parents and teachers can intervene by helping them keep their phones away, especially.
3. Slave or master?
People between the ages of 18-24 make up the highest demographic group who spend time on TikTok the most. Some for good, others for irrelevant purposes. I have seen underaged school girls dancing to Tiktoks in uniform. How long did they spend rehearsing in class before going live? Why not use that time to understand Further Maths better?
Soon, this begins to tell on their grades. Their priorities get misplaced with earning more followers and cheap fame.
Some argue that phones aid a child’s learning process. But here’s my thought on it.
Mobile phones slow their learning process instead. What these kids need are computers that are designed only for classroom learning. Some parts of China are doing a great job inventing gadgets that enable children to learn.
The mobile phone is a valuable tool for human development as well as a growing menace, especially when used wrongly. It becomes detrimental, not only to the child but society, at large. I hope with these few points of mine, I've been able to convince you that Students should NOT be allowed to use phones in school.

Yes @ahbaz. Mobile phones are a huge distraction to students in school. This could really affect their acdemic performance negatively. And yes, the social media is a major detriment. Spending lengthy hours on the social media, is'nt the best for students, as this will reduce their level of productivity as you stated above. The use of mobile phones by younger students, can also bring about addiction at the early stages of their lives. And thanks for the knowledge shared about the prefrontal cortex as the part of the brain that aids in making better decision. Nice write-up sis.....Thumbs up
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this as well.😊
