Assalamu Alaikum to all, hope you are well? Alhamdulillah I am fine too. In its 29th week of the debate series hosted by respected moderator @shamie of the Steam Fashion and Style community, a great topic has been chosen which is better between dictatorship and democracy.

Democracy or Dictatorship: Which is Better for Stability and Progress?

My country Bangladesh is a democratic country, but we are now in a dictatorship. For the progress and stability of a country I will undoubtedly go for democracy. Democracy contributes immensely to upholding the rule of law and human rights. In a democratic society, free and fair elections, separation of powers, and preventing abuse of power and ensuring accountability. Democracy can provide a conducive environment for stable economic growth, innovation and social progress.

Dictatorship may be good for quick decision making but for the people and abuse of power has great effect in this dictatorship.

How does democracy help a country progress compared to a dictatorship?

Democracy always works to ensure the equal rights of the people of the country and the opinion of the people of the country works to improve the living conditions and sustainable development. Democracy can advance a country over dictatorship for many reasons.

• Creativity: Democracy always encourages freedom of expression which encourages creativity.

• Accountability and Transparency: Democracies usually have mechanisms for accountability through free and fair elections, an independent judiciary and a free press that ensure transparency of government operations among the public.

• Economic development: Democracy often provides a more favorable environment for sustainable economic development. Democracies always respect the rule of law and investors.

• Freedom of Individuals: Democracy prioritizes human rights and individual freedoms such as freedom of speech, assembly which leads to a more vibrant and dynamic society.

Can a dictatorship handle tough times better than a democracy?

Dictators can sometimes manage difficult times effectively in the short term due to their centralized power structure and ability to make quick decisions.
What makes a dictator good for:

• Quick decision making: They can make quick decisions as they decide alone.
• Suppression of dissent: Dictatorship can suppress dissent as common people's opinions are not taken into consideration
  Dictatorships also control the public and the media.

Dictatorship has few advantages but many disadvantages which are not good for the country and people.

Why is individual liberty important for a country to grow under different forms of government?

Personal liberty is very important to the growth of a country under any government because it empowers individuals to contribute their full potential to society. In a democratic system, individual freedoms are enshrined in constitutions and laws. Citizens have the right to express their views, participate in decision-making processes and engage in activities that promote innovation and progress. It fosters a dynamic environment where ideas can flourish, leading to economic growth through entrepreneurship, creativity and technological advancement. Without individual freedom, societies risk stagnation and underdevelopment, regardless of their political system.
