Among the huge array of singers in the world, Jermaine Lamarr Cole who is known professionally as J Cole is my favorite singer. He is 35 years old, born on January 28, 1985, in Frankfurt-Germany. His father who was in the US army was stationed there and he grew up alongside his mother. Unfortunately, his parents were seperated. His mom and brother moved to North Carolina after his father abondened them. This was one of the forces that drove him to accomplish a lot in life.
During his youth he enjoyed playing basketball and violin. He was introduced to his first ever performance when he was 15. It was in one of these performances that he gained confidence after beating a lot of rappers who were much older. Over the past years, J Cole has been very influential in the rap game. Aside from being an American rapper, he is a songwriter, singer, and record producer.
His imprint Dreamville was formed in 2007 after his graduation. On May 4th 2007, he released his first official mixtape, The Come Up along with his first music video for his single Simba. Jay Z recognised the good work he was doing and signed him on the Rock Nation label. This changed his life. In 2009, his first rock nation project The warm up was released. This was streamed over hundred million times making J Cole the next big artist. He contined dropping his mixtapes until he got recognised around the whole world.
All his albums have been certified platinum. 8 BET Hip Hop awards, billboard award for Top Rap album and a Grammy award for best rap song are a few of the awards he has won over the past years.
He has produced a lot of hit songs but Middle Child is my favourite song. No Role Modelz, Love Yourz, Work Out, Wet Dreamz and Power Trip are some of the great song he produced. I like J Cole because the issues he talks about in his songs are things I can really relate to-mostly about college life, the epitome of life and the challenges humans go through. He always sing songs that are a true reflection of his thoughts. He's got good bars and no doubt he is lyrically good. He is very humble and a great story teller.
