Clothesline Magic! 🌞👕👖

in Inner Blocks6 years ago

The sweet smell of fresh air, and the sun shining down makes for a happy afternoon, and it also makes for a great day to hang out clothes on the line!

When we initially became adults, I had zero interest in clothes drying outside. Why in the world would I take a basket of heavy, wet clothes, pin them all up, wait for them to dry, and then take them down only to have them feel stiff and smell like we'd gone camping?

This frame of mind lasted until we moved to our homestead in Missouri. Then magically, the idea didn't seem so bad when I no longer had a washer and dryer, and our only option was a trek to town and the laundry mat, or hand wash and hang dry. Every time I chose the latter, we saved sooo much money.

We all got used to the clothes being a bit stiffer, and the smell of the hollers of Missouri left a sweet scent. Well, that is until the husband would inevitably start a fire while the clothes were on the line.🤦

So, while we are bugging out waiting for this pandemic to be over, we have been super blessed with a great place to be that includes a washer and dryer!

My, oh my!

These machines are beautiful! A set of fully clean clothes ready to be worn in as little as two hours? Fluffy towels at a push of a button? My heart overflowths.

But my heart also longs for the simplicity and magic a clothes line brings. Plus, the realist in me loves the self-sufficiency of letting the sun do the drying versus paying for the electricity is really appealing. So when we looked outside and saw one ready to go, I might have squealed a little...there could have even been a little pee.

Good thing there's a washer.

I was getting ready to wash our shower curtains to hang up in the house, and I thought they would be a great test run on the line. The hubs and I set out to the backyard, and unfortunately found that the line was pretty ancient. It was mostly black and falling apart. But on the bright side, we had clothesline in our trailer just in case we needed to dry things while traveling!

Soon enough, the Yeti was hard at work weaving the line in and out of the holes in the poles, and we were in business!

By the time he was done, the curtains were ready to be hung up.

I was so excited to see them waving through the spring air!

Shortly after we had it all up, we needed to make a run into town. I thought when we got back home, the curtains would probably be dry and I could put them in the bathroom. However, when we got back, our neighbor was having some sort of trash fire and the air smelled like burnt plastic.

I rewashed the curtains and hung them up in the shower wet. You can't win 'em all.

Thanks for sharing this with me!
Much love,
Stacie D

Hello lovely lady! :D

I've been trying to convince my handsome husband to find a way to put in a clothes line for me off the side of our house, (he's reluctant as he doesn't think I'd use it because it'd be too hard on my back,) and I've tried to explain to him that I actually enjoy hanging laundry out on the clothes line, (I used to do it with my grandma all the time and I still do it with a friend of ours, the wife of the farmer we get to fill our oats barrels, if she happens to have a load to put out when I visit) it's quite relaxing to me. :D Maybe he'll surprise me with one this summer, that would be amazing and our anniversary is coming up in June. :D

I might be that neighbor...I've been known to start a fire in our burn barrel before looking over to see if there was any laundry flapping in the breeze first, not often, but it has happened. :D LOL! :D

Enjoy your new clothes line and all the fresh smelling, (when your neighbor or your hubby aren't burning stuff,) clothes that you get to dry on it. :D You and your fantastic family stay safe and keep smiling, your smiles make me smile every time. :D

God bless you and your wonderful family. :D Have an awesome day my fabulous friend! :D

I hope you get a clothesline for your anniversary! How many years has it been? We are coming up on 17 years in August 😃

Yeah...I whine about the fire but I probably wouldn't think before I lit one haha.

I love when you stop by my posts. It always makes me smile!

Me too! :D LOL! :D We'll be celebrating our 29th anniversary on D-Day. :D

Oh good, I'm glad it's not just me, LOL. :D

Awe, thank you very much. :D I'm grinning like a crazy lady now, just saying, LOL. :D
