The Effects Of Nomadic Farming At My Area

in SteemFarm-Market2 years ago

Greetings friends.

Today I am posting through @steemfarn-market Community. We appreciate all your support in keeping the community to grow. We are all reminded this Community is basically concerns about farming and other Agricultural related activities.

To move forward, we are to improve good Practices of farming in order to maximize productions for our lovely people worldwide. Hence we discard any bad agricultural practices that can cause havoc to the environment.

Today I found myself to visit some area of farming where I found some bad practices of Herdsmen rearing cattle. Actually this isn't the real nomadic practices where the headsman stays at the bush with the animals and provide shelter for himself.

The term Nomadic farming is situation where Herdsmen ( A farmer rearing flock of animal like cattle or sheep) move their flock animal from one place to another in search of food and water.

A place where these practices are mostly done is the pasture land or forage land where the animal get enough of green grasses or vegetation to feed on. During the raining season, there are lot of green grasses but at the drought, grasses become scarce for cattle and sheep.

Upon reaching some maize farm, I saw that the Herdsman has led his cattle to feed in the maize farm which has almost dried. I couldn't believe this since the maize haven't been harvested. What do you think the cattle would cause to this farm?

Nomadic actually cause vandalisation to crops and vegetation

A lot of farm lands are destroyed due to Nomadic practices. With the maize farm, most of the maize are like to be fed by the cattle since the farm owner wasn't around. What happens is that either voluntarily or involuntarily, the Herdsmen leave the cattle to move and feed on the vegetation so before they realise, the cattle have trooped to where they aren't expected to go.

Secondly, where normally the nomadic is done, it leads to loss of soil nutrients to support cultivation of crops, since mostly the leaves and organic matter in general would be lost due to continuous grazing at one particular area.

This is one of the bad practices we would want to avoid in order to maintain Agricultural lands.

Therefore, we advice that, Headsmen should locate one particular area which isn't farm lands rather than moving on farm lands to vandalize.

This would rather help the reserve farmlands as well as farm produce from destruction.

that's right, breeders usually don't think about other people's harm, by leaving livestock on this farm, is a bad habit that has happened in my area

Yes, it is really bad habit. Thanks for passing by.

This is happening in my area too and they have warn the owners of the cow severally but t they won't listen. It is really devastating.

This is true and it's happening in most areas in Africa. Thanks for your comments.

It's also happening here. I think the owners should care about this and listen to others. And I think it is done everywhere. Well, a good point to be noted by @oppongk
