What if the ONLY solution to protect us from PANDEMICS was to preserve the BALANCE of NATURAL ECOSYSTEMS?steemCreated with Sketch.

After 15 days of quarantine . .

closed at home with police on the streets to check who transgresses the rules because here, in Italy, you can only go out for real needs, so staying clear and focused is really difficult for me.
I would like to resume writing my usual posts, but this pandemic influences my every thought and I am not interested in other topics.

But I think this affects all those directly affected by the Coronavirus a little bit and we are talking about 2.6 billion people locked up at home all over the world until today, March 25, 2020.
The same thing applies to the media, all information, including fake information, is focused on the current difficult situation.

We humans are not used to having no answers about the future or not having the cure for a disease and the Coronavirus has shown us our impotence in the face of certain unexpected events.

BUT WAS THE ARRIVAL OF A PANDEMIC REALLY SO UNEXPECTED?

The WHO had already warned in September 2019 of the possibility of a pandemic disaster and urged countries to prepare and strengthen their health systems. More info here.
But as all governments have reacted we know it very well and today we pay the price of having underestimated the situation.

I believe at this point that we should ask ourselves why another yet aggressive and contagious virus has developed.
The day we defeat the Coronavirus we will have to commit ourselves not to create the conditions that favor the development of these pandemics anymore.

What we know about Covid-19 is that it is a ZOONOSES, that is, an infectious disease that at a certain point passed from an animal species to man, what science called SPILLOVER happened a species jump.
As with most pandemics that have affected humans throughout history, there has been a jump in species.
More info about ZOONOSES here.

So I wonder, but isn't the time to consider that viruses also spread by the way we humans interact with NATURE?

Of course it is essential that the correct HEALTH MEASURES are applied globally to avoid the spread of new contagious diseases.
But we must accept the fact that the health of all humanity depends on the health of our Planet.

The scientific community has long been warning us that the reduction of biodiversity, the destruction of natural habitats of wild animals and their manipulation and marketing are among the causes of the spread of new infectious diseases dangerous for human beings.

We are breaking all the ECOLOGICAL BALANCES that are no longer in a position to perform its essential function in fighting the microorganisms responsible of ruthless viruses.
Recent studies show that the number of pandemics such as SARS, MERS, EBOLA, etc., have grown globally in recent decades according to IPBES - the UN organization that acts as an interface between science and politics on biodiversity - in 2019 the destructive actions of the human being towards the natural environment reached unprecedented levels.

Also according to the latest WWF report, half of the emerging ZOONOSES that endanger humans are due to the destruction of natural habitats.

THE DESTRUCTION OF FORESTS PUTS US IN CONSTANT DANGER.

Forests are perfect ecosystems in which millions of wild species coexist, still largely unknown to science, including viruses, bacteria, fungi that, losing their natural habitat, find themselves looking for new places in to proliferate and unfortunately places ever closer to man.

Preserving natural ECOSYSTEMS today more than ever is INDISPENSABLE, it is not about having environmental ideas, it is about thinking about HOW TO PROTECT PUBLIC HEALTH.
Stop looking at the other way because indifference has a cost even in ECONOMIC TERMS.

How much does it cost us to face and fight Coronavirus?

The world economies have already suffered a serious arrest.

Pandemics have always accompanied human life and caused millions of victims throughout history, the time has really come to change our impact on the Planet so as not to lose the struggle between mankind and the environment that hosts us.

In any case, NATURE tries to recover what is taken away from it.
At the time of globalization and mass urbanization we can no longer afford to deforest the ** PLANET ** to make way for intensive breeding and for ever larger markets of live animals in close contact with humans without any respect for adequate hygiene standards.

Over the past 100 years, science has made great strides by discovering that the majority of the pandemics that affect us have ZOONOTIC ORIGINS and despite the discovery of new vaccines, these deadly viruses recur cyclically, severely testing our survival on the Planet.
