Quarantine life plus studies, how can we help to ensure effective learning as if our wards are in school? We see things to go beyond our control when the number of new cases of covid-19 always shoot up. But we cannot look at the decline of the standard of education that this quarantine life and #StayAtHome could cause to let children go to school. One of the things that authorities here in Ghana planned to let schools resume their normal duty, but parents disagreed to this decision which could aggrevate the whole situation and cause mess.
Looking at the situation at stake, there are large number of students who are from different places and far away from where they attend school. Allowing them to come will mean promoting personal contacting in vehicles due to overcrowding nature that it could cause. Secondly, their coming will turn out to increase the student population in schools, since there are fewer classrooms for students to stay. This could result in large number of new cases of infection with the disease.
The StayAtHome campaign is championing by everybody during this quarantine life, since we don't to cause more harm than good. All the teacher unions, students and parents are in support for students to stay home to avoid further increasing number of covid 19 cases. In that case, students are to be motivated to learn at home. Children are not like elderly people who can decide on their own about the need to schedule some time for studies, children need to be motivated before their minds will be directed to what they suppose to do. Motivation comes in different forms, so it depends of the kind of motivation you will give to the students that will let them they learn.
I remember when I was a kid, if my Dad wanted me not to follow him to town, he would just promise me to buy me toffee. In case he buys to toffee for me, on his second day when he is going I wouldn't bother myself worrying home to go with him, since he has been fulfilling his promises of motivating me with toffee. That was just some years back how I was motivated. Our consistency of showcasing the reality of truth case motivate the child feel potential. If they first of all build trust and confident in you, anything that you say, they will just do it.
Now our task as parents to motivate your wards to study at home for you: just give them some task to perform. This can be exercise, creativity, reading or anything are possible to engage them learning. Buy some few items, it could be anything like present or gift, show these items to them, and encourage them to learn so that after the task they take these items. That is the first level of motivation which you can do to engage your ward to learn. In this case, you can continue with this kind of motivation for several days. Once that we have executed that task, the children will now build trust or confidence in you. In the next motivation, the parent isn't going to buy those items to motivate the children again. The second motivation is the future promises, where the parents will tell their wards that do these tasks, "you saw that from all these while I've been buying those items for you, really that how I want to make your life sweet in future if you accomplish this task." I'll let you become a doctor, an engineer, a lawyer, or even you can let them tell what they want to be in future. You can even mention some great Universities they have ever heard them in their lives, and promise them to send them to pursue their education when they complete those tasks. In this case, the children have already built confidence in you that when you promise you do it exactly, so you can't fail them.
Gradually, through this motivation, the children will learn at home and by the time covid 19 ends they might have learnt a lot of things as if they are in school.
