How To Make Your Classroom Look Lucrative, Colourful & Lovely For Studies In Lower Priamary?
In fact I've never taught in lower primary class, especially "Nursery" before. But, with the knowledge and concept of education and curriculum I've built upon, if given the mandate I can equally impact with much skills. Most teacher do what we call "root teaching, or either do they chewed, passed and forget their methods of teaching." So, they do not actually make effective use of the methods they were intenalized with. Teaching isn't about theoritical or hurrying to cover all the syllabus or contents given, but it's a gradual build up systematically. To effectively and actively get learners involved in learning is very paramount, taking into consideration, every part of the curriculum. One of the most relevant we should always take into consideration is "the classroom arrangement."
In teaching lower primary such as "Nursery, stage one or stage two," the classroom should be made to look very lucrative, colourful and attractive or lovely for studies. Children learn more from observation, sensing, hearing and feeling. In most cases, their classrooms should look very ornament or decorative to appeal them. Children have short absorption memories than adults, that's why time for sleeping has been allocated in their lessons. 15mins to 30mins of their lesson is Ok for them, in order not for the lesson becoming boring. Because, after this time interval, they feel exhausted and their minds become saturated.
Display of visual matrials such as: charts/cardboards/real objects of all kinds in lower classes:
In my class where I teach now-Junior High School, even though the students ages are around 12 to 15, which means that they have grown up comparatively to the lower classes. Yet, when you enter my class you will see a lot of prepared cardboards and charts displayed in the classroom. So, as a teacher in the lower class, you must make effort to improvise some charts, cardboards, real objects and even drawings of some bodies as and when needed for the lessons. If there are not already made ones for the school, the teacher has to improvise to make the lesson lovely. These materials should come in brands, not one of it kinds. Simply because, children learn varieties of things and make comparison everyday. Both inside and outside the buidings, should be full of drawings of nursery things that the children will meet them in their content to be learned; such as, animals, birds, trees, flowers, and some of the things they may see on their environment. These drawings/charts/cardeboards show be accompanied with their names written boldly or well labelled. This help them to memorize and recite the information contained on the materials even when they are at home. They always keep the pictures observed in their minds and make their learning very easy for them. On the other hand, the teacher finds his or her teaching too very easy, since every lesson will have something to display.
The use of videos display and audio hearing in lower class:
Teaching and learning is never one way style, that's why we should be able to vary our lessons to help learners learn many things. I became very delighted when we introduced video watching in our worships in Junior High School. One thing that I learned most from the students is that, when this was introduced , always we had full number of students joining the worship, and all of them being paid attention watching the video with little control of the class. What this mean is that, students love what they use their vision to see than speaking to them to absorb. They could narrate all that took place in the video, but hardly would they recall what they well taught through lecture method. What I want to construct here is that, introduce video that show some cartoons, and educational subjects. We can also record some news updates using your mobile phones, pendrives inserted in your laptops or computers for you learners to listen and make some explanation to it. You can even bring radio to the class, make learners listen to some popular news that they announce within se particular time in school hours.
