Reading stories to stimulate language in children should be very interactive, so that children learn through the way the adult expresses himself, the gestures and expressions that are observed are of great importance.

Narrating and following the reading making incredible sounds and animations will help the reading, in addition to being more entertaining, increase the fun and the child wants to practice and be part of it.

How do we help the child want to be part of the reading?

The child is asked with the story in hand. This helps the child see that there is something he wants to show him.

Open the cover of the story. Children, because they are very visual, want to know more, touch and observe, in this case, the adult must have a sustained story, if the children are very young, even if they are not, they must wait for the adult to believe appropriate to deliver the story into the hands of children.

The stories with images and colors. The more images the story has, the better, but they must be punctual, striking, the colors must be consistent, not the colors that stun and do not match the images.

Reading the story. This reading can be done with respect to what he says textually in the story or describe it through the images, according to his own imagination. Important to be expressive.

Use of expressions. It is a good idea if the adult and the child are included in the story, so that a different story is created, for example: make the child greet the sun, if there is a moon the adult can greet the moon, make the interaction as possible stimulate the language.

Make the child interact more language. It is about making the child repeat the same word at least twice, an example of it, it can be:

  • The adult says: say hello to the bear.
  • The boy greets.
  • The adult tells him: he doesn't listen to you, say it louder.

It is a way for the child to raise his voice a little and that with repetition, language is stimulated through his own voice.

In the process, we encourage children with phrases like:

  • You do very well.
  • You spoke very well.
  • What a good progress of speech.
  • I am proud of your language.

These are words that little by little the child will understand, but that he feels when he likes the tone of his voice.

The stories are exciting speech, do not stop doing it, every day or every night, even use it in the afternoons of readings where the whole family is involved.
