Making a Dolawa
Hi art lovers..
Today I would like to share with you how me and my friends made a dolawa for a cultural dance in my university.
Do you know what is a dolawa??? It is an ancient travel mode used by kings and queens in Sri Lanka.I don't know if there is a english word for that. We srilankans call it as Dolawa.
Modern days we use it for weddings and sometimes in other cultural events.
This is a screenshot from http://www.mywedding.lk/wedding-ashtaka-jayamangala-gatha-traditional-drummers-dancers-sri-lanka.html
We used this picture and tried to recreate it as much as possible.
Now let's see how we made it.
We used styrofoam, cardboard and wood to make this.
First I drew the sketch in a blank paper.
Then I traced it on to styrofoam sheet and started to cut using blades. Since it was winter we could not do it out side the hostel. So we did it in our hostel room with a great difficulty 😣
My friends also helped me
Then we painted it in yellow color because we weren't able to find gold color paint.
And then we fixed all the parts together and fixed a wooden stool to sit
These are some photographs taken by me when the dancing event was taken place
I hope you enjoy our little effort 😊
