Contest: Let's Talk About Your Favorite Sport | Cricket : The Gentleman's Game | 5% for SL Charity

There are so many Sports all around the world. I bet I don't know more than half of them well. As in my Country, Sri Lanka, I can see only one Well established Sport. And as you all know It's Cricket. And also it's the most famous sport in Sri Lanka. So, No doubt.. Cricket is my Favorite Sport.

As you all know, Cricket was born in England. It was just a game that played by the boys who looked after Cows and they played it just to waste their time. But hey, Now it's "The Sport of Gentlemen."

Recent Incident from Ongoing Test match of SL vs BAN

I hope you know about Cricket as it's one of the Most Famous Sports in the World. I mean the basics.. Such as..Two teams are played. 11 in each side. Also there should be Two Umpires on the Ground. One Team does the fielding and bowling while couple of batsmen from the other team bat until they get "Out" or ran out of "Overs" or time. There are various ways to get "out" such as Bowled out, Caught out, Leg before wicket, Run out, Hit wicket etc.

I Like to see Getting Bowled Out

A batman can score by running Singles, twos, threes or All Four if possible. Also they can hit boundaries to get 4 runs or they can hit over the Boundaries to get 6 runs. There are mainly two types of Bowlers, Fast Bowlers and Spin Bowlers. And there are many Sub Categories of them. Totally 104 Countries have been members of International Cricket Council. But there are only 12 Nations which are Full Members. They are England, Australia, South Africa, West Indies, New Zealand, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, Bangladesh, Ireland and Afghanistan.

We can mainly see Three formats in Cricket. They are,

About to Miss the Catch..

Test Cricket - The game is played for 5 days usually from 9 30 AM to 5 30 PM or 2 30 PM to 10 30 PM. Usually 90 Overs should be bowled per day if not disturbed by Bad Lighting, whether etc. No limitations of overs bowled by a bowler. There are two Innings per team but a match can be won with a side playing only one Innings.

One-Day Cricket - 50 overs per side. One bowler can bowl maximum 10 overs. The main ICC Cricket World Cup is based on This Format..

T20i Cricket - 20 overs per side. One bowler can bowl maximum 4 overs. Most popular format of game thanks to T20 Leagues such as IPL, CPL, Big Bash etc.

My favorite format of Cricket is Test Cricket. It's where the Real Cricketer is made. It's where players learn the game and understand their Limits. Also we spectators can watch cricket for 5 Days Continuously. That's a wholly new level of Feeling.

Why I Like Cricket...

In most games, if a player has a perfect body to fit in to the game, he can perform well. But in Cricket, "Size Doesn't Matter." If know the Techniques You can even be the Top Ranked Batsman or Bowler.

Rangana Herath vs Ishant Sharma

The possibility of outcome can be varied Dramatically. Let's take a Football game playing Brazil against some low ranked country. It's obvious that Brazil wins. But in Cricket, there's more possibility to Turn around the outcome. That's the thing. One delivery in Enough to Change the possible outcome of game.

Recently, Pakistan was Beaten By Zimbabwe

Nowadays, Technology getting involved heavily in Cricket. So, the weight on Umpires is a bit less right now. And that's a very good thing to see. There are various camera angles to Observe a Scene. So we can use them to give Correct Decisions in a game. It's used in many occasions such as,

  • Give right Decision on Runouts
  • To Check Front foot No Balls
  • To check Catches whether it's carried or not.
  • To check Obstruction in Field
  • For Decision Reviewing
  • My Favorite Player

    My Favorite Players
My all time Favorite Cricket Player is Brian Lara. He's a Former West Indies Captain and a Great Batsman. I still like to watch Highlights of him Playing. But he's retired now. From players who haven't retired, I can pick Babar Azam as my Favorite Cricketer. Now, he's The Top Ranked ODI Batsman in the World. He surpassed Virat Kohli who was holding the spot... I think for 4 years..

    Things I don't like..

In everything you like, there can be things you don't like. Those things has caused for Black Marks in Cricket.

The Worst Sledging I saw by Glenn McGrath

I really don't like Sledging in Cricket. That mostly happen between bowler and batsman or Keeper, Slip Fielders and Batsman. It's like part and parceled with game right now which is not cool. Some sledging are Racial. I mostly see Australians do this.

We've seen some Incidents in Cheating. There was so many incidents on Match Fixing. I remember number of Pakistani Cricketers including Mohammed Amir, Salman Butt was banned for Match fixing.

    Ball Tampering Using Sandpaper

And you can't forget Incidents like " Sandpaper Scandal" which left a huge Black mark in Australian Cricket. Great players such as Steve Smith and David Warner got banned for months. Also you can't forget what Shahid Afridi, a Former Pakistani Captain did to the Cricket Ball. He literally chewed the ball in order to change the shape.

    Things I Admire

I've noticed some special moments where I saw Gentle Features in Cricketers.

When a Batsman knows he's out, there's no need to stay until Umpire signals him "Out". I've seen Kumar Sangakkara a few times leaving the crease even umpire hadn't given him out. And he was praised for his honesty. Those little things really matters in a fair play.

South Africans Wear Pink Jersey in Charity Matches

I've seen Cricket Players engaging with Charity works. South African Cricket team usually plays few games as a help for Cancer Foundation. I've seen Players like Martin Guptill, Chris Lynn does that. Recently Australian Phaser, Pat Cummins donated 50, 000$ for Indian Government to Control the ongoing COVID Crisis. Sri Lankan Cricket Board has organized a Game between SL Legends and SL Emerging Team in order to Raise fund for COVID Vaccination.

    1996 World Cup Winning Moment..

Sri Lankan Cricket had marked our country's name on the top. Sri Lankan team had won One ICC World Cup (1996), One T20i World Cups (2014) and a Co-Championship in Champion's Trophy (2002). So I don't wanna consider other Sports as a Favorite one when there's Cricket..

Hello friend your participation has been good, I liked everything you describe and I know you enjoy this sport, I do not know this sport, I have watched some cricket games but for a few minutes. I would like you to use free source images. Greetings and good luck in the contest.

    Entry #25 accepted.

I thought of using free sources but i was unable to find what i need 😑

It is normal, sometimes we do not find what we need but we use images related or referring to the topic.

Here I recommend some pages for free images: Pixabay, pexels, unsplash, shutterstock and pixinio.

In google apply this: Once inside google images, press tools, then a bar opens to filter the search, there look for where it says rights of use, look for creative commons license, usually is the second option, there will appear free images.
