THE FAVORITE WORLD CUP I HAVE WATCHED

Once every four years, the FIFA world cup which is every soccer fan’s favorite tournament is hosted and played among 32 countries. And in every world cup, memorable and unforgettable scenes and incidents take place which makes each world cup special and exceptional. the 2010 FIFA world cup was the favorite world cup I ever watched. most importantly because my country had become the third African country to have gotten to the quarterfinal stage of the competition after Cameroon and Senegal and that it was hosted on African soil, south African, a country with breath taking scenery and broad diversity, for the first time ever in history they didn’t fail in making it one of the most entertaining world cups.

The whole event was colourful.it felt so good having all the big names in football and everyone on the planet on the African continent because we have watched the world cup many times from different countries and different continents and were always wishing we ever got a chance to host it too on this continent no matter the country. Africa have been portrayed and pictured as a continent beauty bearing and poverty, diseases and conflicts in another, so I think the world cup showed we achieved a lot but I still think that we still got a lot to achieve.

In that year I was very young and was a point where I was becoming very active about sports issues and events even though I loves soccer since I was a I ‘don’t even know when’. So much that I sometimes skipped school just to watch some of the matches. Ghana had the likes of Sulley Muntari, Kevin prince Boateng, Stephen Appiah, Asamoah Gyan, Kwadwo Asamoah, a number of players who were at the peaks of their careers and a lot were playing for top flight clubs across Europe. Ghana had one of the best teams when it came to individual talent and was also one of the best as a collective team. Ghana was the first African country to qualify alongside host nation south Africa in a qualification group which had Nigeria, a young and exuberant Mali team and Benin. Where showed their dominance.

Ghana began their campaign facing Serbia on Sunday, 13 June which they won by a lone goal making it their fifth goal in the world cup the whole country was excited for this win, they later had a less convincing draw result and finally losing their last group game with Germany which where a much stronger team than them by a lone goal from the then real Madrid playmaker Mesut Ozil. They finished the group stage second in position with same points as Australia and qualified for the next round of the competition with goal difference making it the second time, they made it pass the group stage of the word cup after they did in their debut qualification to the world cup.

They met USA in the knockout stage and defeated them with Asamoah Gyan scoring the last-minute winning goal for Ghana to produce the same results from the 2006 world cup against the same opponent which put Ghana through to the quarterfinals of the competition.

At this point Ghana was the only African country left which drew every support from the other African countries going forward to their stage game with Uruguay. Going into the game Diego Forlan was the player to be watched in the Uruguayan team, the player was on top form for club and country. The game started and Ghana where able to old and contain the Uruguayan team with Richard Kingston making great saves in the first not just the first half but the whole game. Our hopes lit up towards the end of the first half after Sulley Muntari struck a screamer to put Ghana in the lead and could even be considered one of Ghana’s best goals scored in the world cup. Things began to fall apart in the second half after that stunning free-kick from Diego Forlan which leveled them up and ended in a draw in regular time.

The extra time didn’t produce very much eventful scenes until the last minute freekick from John Paintsil which was headed in by Kwadwo Asamoah but was Luis Suarez prevented It from scoring with his hands and was sent off, a penalty was awarded to Ghana and we all had our hopes up to qualify for the semis for to make it the first for any African country in history to but Gyan stepped up and kicked it and was denied by the woodwork so it ended up on a penalty shootout which we lost 4-2.even though we lost it was one of my favorite world cup match I watch Ghana play. The final match was played between Spain and Netherlands where Spain won by one goal.
the fact that Ghana reached the quarterfinals and played well but were unfortunate in the match they were knocked out makes this world cup my favorite of all that I have watched

South Africa 2020 was undoubtedly the Africa World Cup. How to forget that historic Ghanaian team that made history. By the way, Asamoah Gyan is one of my favorite African players of all time, a striker who was underrated in my opinion. Great participation, but please we need you to participate in the verification process in order to be a member of the community.
