The Layoff Will Be The Silence Killer of Garments Workers in Bangladesh

The earth is surrounded by the black darkness of COVID-19. Where is the light of hope? Where is the motivation, where is the encouragement, what is the proper solution? There is no hope, no motivation, no encouragement, no proper solution just advice, "STAY HOME, STAY SAFE". Question is there how much time we will stay at home, as soon as possible our sweet home going to be our prison for us. Staying at home why the number of being affected people is increasing at a very high rate. COVID-19 become the most powerful and clever serial killer for human civilization. Our doctor is able to find the cause of death but our police unable to catch the killer.

Staying at home is not a big deal if there have a sufficient supply of our basic needs. COVID-19 created a very unexpected situation. People have to quarantine without any preparation. How long people will support themself from their saving one month, two months, three months. Rich families will unable to support themself for more than three months with their savings. I'm not talking about the situation of the developed country I'm talking about the situation of third world countries. In third world countries, the maximum family lives under poverty. Without proper help from Government, they can't survive a long time. It was not more than one month already Bangladesh facing so many troubled. Our Government is unable to supply food and our daily necessities with our demand. On the other hand corruption of some beast increasing the fear of death not only by COVID-19 but also by Starving.

Let's come to the point, The word "Layoff" used to describe the condition of any business, especially for the manufacturing company. When the production of any manufacturing company become stopped for any reason, then the management of this company declared the "Layoff" condition of his company with the condition they will pay the basic salary of their company's workers and employees. Or they will pay half of the gross salary of every worker and employee. In the Layoff period, the management can't terminate any worker and employee. If any worker wants to resign from his job in the layoff period the management has to pay all his layoff amount.

"Layoff" is much better than shutting down any company. Layoff means there has a great possibility to run the factory once again and workers and employees get an amount every month to survive. But in present, the overall condition is not favoring any worker and any employee. There are more than 4.1 million garments workers in Bangladesh. Forget about the high salary range of employees. Let's talk about the average salary range of Garments workers in Bangladesh. By the gadget of December 2019, the average basic salary range of a garment worker in Bangladesh is 8600 BDT (104 USD) and an average gross salary of 13500 BDT (162 USD).

Present more than 90% of garments workers staying in Dhaka and the nearest city of Dhaka such as Gazipur, Savar, Narayangonj. Garments workers lead their life very chiefly with their gross salary in Dhaka city. For the declaration of Layoff, they will get only their Basic salary. With the basic salary of how they will lead their life in the lockdown period. The price of our daily necessary goods is increasing day by day. The maximum number of garments workers has no savings. How they will support their life and their family with half of their salary.

The Government of Bangladesh decided to give loans to every garment industry to pay the gross salary of every worker and employee. If any industries decided to declare Layoff Bangladesh Government will not give any loan to these industries. But now the question is there why maximum industries are deciding to declare Layoff? Maximum owners of garments manufacturing companies fall in a trap, they become very confused about what they will do. They have no idea about the future of their industries. Will they able to run their industries once again or will not. If the lockdown period goes for three months why they will take such kind of big amount of loan from the Bangladesh government. There are lots of company they can support their work and employee with the basic salary declaring the Layoff situation.

COVID-19 become the gateway of Dark future for Garments manufacturing company in Bangladesh and the decision of "Layoff" will be the gateway to the dark future for Garments workers and employee in Bangladesh.
